Are they A thing? I mean obviously a Ogryn or a Beastman would be a terrible inquisitor but I see no reason why a Ratling or a Squat couln't be a inquisitor. Has it ever been seen in the lore? Does it even make sense?

The Squat lore, back when they had their own homewards and before they were declared "eaten by Tyranids" by exasperated game developers, were described as not being followers of the Imperial Cult (they were described as ancestor worshippers).
That represents a fundamental obstacle to being an Inquisitor, sort of like not being Roman Catholic is a fundamental obstacle to being Pope.

Unless they've retconned it, an inquisitor can pass his or her rosette on to anyone he or she considers a worthy successor. IIRC it is usual to have the appointment confirmed by other inquisitors, but it's not strictly necessary. And even then a cabal of radical inquisitors could probably confirm each other's successors without any meaningful oversight by anyone else. The flip side, of course, is that there's also nothing to stop an... 'unsuitable' new inquisitor from being immediately pounced on by all the local Monodominants...

A little bit of righteous anger now and then is good, actually. Don't trust a person who never gets angry. |

Not sure abhumans really have the skills to be Inquisitors. Squats maybe, You could use a Kharadon Overlord for the model- they're techy enough. Or the Techmarine Grombrindal.
But Ogryns don't have the mental capacity, and rattling's natural skittishness, while making them good snipers, doesn't exactly make them great leaders.
I think you could make an awesome retinue out of abhumans for a radical Xenos inquisitor though. In fact, I like the idea so much I might do that myself.

Some abhumans are basically humans adapted for low gravity so they're weirdly tall so they'd be fine. Things like ratlings maybe not.

Technically, there is probably nothing against it.
Practically there is generally wide-spread prejudice against them so it strikes me as VERY unlikely ever to happen. Even if they were made an inquisitor, they would have an uphill battle to get anything done. Hunting down mutants when most people think you are one? Kinda rough.

If you need a certificate to confirm your humanity, you don't have the natural authority to carry the Inquisitorial seal.
If you're weird or intimidating enough to negate the first requirement, then welcome aboard Spacer Innsmouth, or Cats McGuns.

Seems very unlikely but not impossible. That said, the one-of-a-kind characters are the ones who get stories written about them, so it wouldn't be unreasonable to see such a thing eventually.

This. There might be the odd exception - but these days an Inquisitor is seen as acting "with the god-emperor's authority", with religious undertones even if they're not overtly pious.
The FFG/Black library RPG rules specifically didn't allow Tech-priest inquisitors for this reason - members of the *other* Imperial religion are seen as having irredeemably divided loyalties.

Golesh Heldane is not directly an Abhuman Inquisitor but he definitely looks like one.
It would not surprise me if there was an abhuman that convinced an Inquisitor to be a proper heir to the titel

His pattern of returning alive after being declared dead occurred often enough during Cain's career that the Munitorum made a special ruling that Ciaphas Cain is to never be considered dead, despite evidence to the contrary. |

Technically Psykers are considered abhumans, and I'm pretty sure there's a fair few Psyker Inquisitors.

I think they're considered mutants, not abhumans. My understanding was that abhuman means a relatively stable strain of mutant.

Yeah so Navigators ARE abhumans but general psykers are not. Though Abhuman psykers almost certainly exist.

Squats had living ancestors. Basically a squat so old he was as in touch with the souls of the departed as he was with those of the living. It seemed to imply any squat that was able to live long enough (we’re talking many centuries) would eventually develop psychic abilities.
Interestingly the squats’ most venerated and powerful psyker, their longest lived ‘ancestor’, was indeed no other than the man himself ... Big E.

Yeah the Squats still.worhiped the empire but like the Mechanicum and most Astartes they do so in a completely different way. There are as many versions of the imperial creed as there are ships in the imperiums navy. Hell every single Feral and Fuedal world has there own vastly diffrent version and many cardinals have there own interpretations of the imperial creed. I dont see why the Squats worshiping Big E as the greatest and first ancestor or tye Mechanicum worshipping him as the Omnisiah should be any less of a of a viable version of the imperial creed as some Feral worlder worshippingg Big E as there sun. As long as you DO worship the Emperor thats all that should count right? So i dont see why the Squats worship would be a barrier to inquistorship.
