I’m going to a tournament in Feb and I need to transport my Drukhari Kabal army.
What’s the best way to transport stupid shaped airplanes and venoms?

Any advice greatly appreciated!

How are you travelling.

If its by car/bus/train then the current popular option is a magnetic tray based case. Basically a case with padded/firm sides and then a metal sheet upon which you place the models. Models have magnets embedded into the base and thus remain steady during transport.

If its flight and your case won't fit carry-on then it is more likely that a foam based case would be a superior option.

There's KR multicase who make foam sheets and a variety of cases from reinforced card through to aluminium.
Battlefoam makes more expensive cases and also have at least one magnetic tray insert option.

I'm fan of magnetic solution myself.

For walking around and regular old car rides magnets rock and its what I do.

But the models are still supporting themselves. So any drop or the like will put stress on the models!
For infantry you usually don't have to worry, but for heavier stuff, a drop might break models that have thinner ankles/attachments to the base. Bigger bumps can also dislodge them and they'll get bouncing around.

Foam, on the other hand, will support the models and offer some buffer to drops.

Like Overread said, if the case is going to be checked baggage or otherwise subjected to rougher handling foam is probably the way to go.

weird shaped models-battlefoam it is a bit more expensive but they custom cut their cases to fit specific GW models. a buddy of mine ran a corsair list back in 5th and he had it for his hornets and warp hunters. I also use some for my storm eagle and drop pods.

for elder vehicles specifically

I have tried many different storage solutions over the years and I believe I've finally found the best one:

https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F391763898671

It's £17.49 for the larger box, + £3.95 delivery in the UK.
It has a top tray with a handle which is big enough for infantry, bikes, and even redemptor dreadnoughts. Remove the tray and underneath is a cavernous compartment tall enough for a Hemlock Wraithfighter ON its flight stand to sit comfortably.
The best part is that it has a sturdy handle, allowing you to carry all this in one hand with ease. The lid doesn't 'click shut' but unless you're tipping it upside down it doesn't matter.

All you have to do then is purchase some adhesive-backed steel paper, and to superglue neodymium magnets under the model's bases (2mm think + 6mm diameter should do the trick) and carefully line the tray and box with the steel paper.

The SMALLER box even fits my entire Custodes army in it, including 2 Caladius, 4 Dreadnoughts, 10+ bikes and 25+ infantry. I just had to get creative with creating more internal storage by adding a removable shelf and keeping the Caladius' turrets magnetised and detached when stored.

It may be a bit more work magnetising everything but I think it's more cost effective than loads of bespoke foam, and once it's done it's waaay more convenient.

The KR has worked for me on several long car rides and is really quite reasonable in terms of cost

Battlefoam is more expensive but very very good.

The magnets and tray work but I've noticed a lot of breakage. Ymmv
