Hi fellow Dakka'ers.

Recently i've acquired a set of SoB Seraphim from the box set however they come with a transparent rod for the base. What set up do you all use to spray such models?

Thanks in advance,
Jinx

Perhaps not, but since GW seems to subsist off sadness and pain, I can't rule it out.

As mentioned, you can mount them on something else or you can grab a masking film like Parafilm and fit it tightly around the flight stand to avoid priming it.

Dollar-store painter's tape works, too. Doesn't need to be fancy.

Yep, I did painters tape as well, worked like a charm. I left it on all the way through assembling, texturing, and painting the bases.

Sure it works, but by that same idea so does just taping it with scotch tape and paper.

Parafilm's fairly cheap for the amount you get(I paid $18 back in 2006 for a medium sized roll, and I still have plenty of it, despite using it to mask scenery and the like) and it has a unique quality that painter's tape doesn't:

It 'shrinks' around whatever it's wrapped when exposed to even a small amount of heat. I use a hair dryer on the lowest setting to fit it to whatever I'm working on, and haven't ever had an issue even with resin items.

Basic crocodile clips attached to something, straight up wire and a block of wood, sprue, lid - basically some suitable looking junk.

One thing I have found recently is table number/photo holders work really well. Add some blue tack and you get very versatile bits painting handles.

Like these for example:

You could always just blue tack too.

I don't mean for this to sound flippant as I'm genuinely curious, but what does that get you over just using painter's tape?

Tape can sometimes lose its tackiness or allow for paint to seep through if you didn't tape it well enough, the Parafilm stuff when applied and fitted allows for you to prevent that.

I have never been let down by straight up masking tape.
