Hey guys,

Like everyone else I’m dusting of my scion army for the new psykic awakening. The two detachments will be different based on what I intend them to function.

Detachment one will be storm troopers. The extra shot on a 6+ is just too good with the grav chute commando ability combined with Laurels of command for the two commands per squad. The Valkyrie would have the TP commando and two command squads and they would drop turn one to take out the big threat or hold until turn two depending on the opponents army. I’d spend a cp on the Valkyrie for the -1 to hit while hovering. The hot shot volley gun squad will go in the taurox and either shoot up the board not mid range ob sec or to sit back and take engineers, or screen once again depending on the opponent. The plasma will deep strike deep for line breaker and back field ob sec

Detachment two will be Lambdan lions. The TP will get the CP strat for the reroll 1 to hit and the invulnerable save relic. He will baby sit the tauroxs to buff their efficiency especially now with the +1 ap. The commissar will be my warlord with grand strategist and he will hide in a corner probably. Plasmas will deep strike in range of my TP to help hold the back like objectives and kill any fast moving units. Hot shot volley gun squads will just do the same stuff as detachment 1.

Vendettas are just for distractions and for deploying dudes in depending on matchup/ also for redeploy late game. The hitting on 4s really isn’t that fantastic and I’d live to swap out the commissar for Yarrick for the rerolls but I dont have the points.

Over all circa 8cp during the game which will go into dropping from the Valkyrie and kill zone. Potentially also using The Lambdan lions strat for mortal wounds if required.

Feed back appreciated. I know the two detachments look weird but it’s been done to get the best out of the tauroxs and the command squads.

I run a similar list but with a few large differences -- my armor support is a third (cadian) group's indirect fire equipment.
An inquisitor rides well in a scion detachment's valkryies and for 55 poitns can throw or deny 2 psyk.
My +1 to hit scions are backed up by commisar yarrik so they don't necessarily self destruct on the second turns shooting, as well.
Gorgonnes grant a strat to drop things in to point blank range -- allowing deepstrikes between people's defenses that they were expecting to be screened out.
+6 inch range guys can deep strike outside a 12 inch bubble, preventing infiltirator and auspex scan issues, and still short range fire.

All those are good and I am still settling out which one I will finally keep. Yesterday was a very successful test of the gorgonnes acoss all the strtike squads (12 plasma) and all the troop choices (another 10 squads minus the three in the cadian group)

I considered running indirect fire support but decided ultimately I want the list to be scion (and commissar) only.

The difference between storm troopers and gorgonnes is the 6+ and unmodified 6 getting an extra hit on 5 and 6 is massive. Last game a unit of 4 put out 14 shots (8 normally).

I’ve come up with an alternative list below. Detachment one is storm troopers and detachment 2 is lions. I had to drop a taurox and the hot shot volley guns but it means I can take Yarrick and push my plasma into extra shots on 6+.

I would have 10 cp with this list. There’s obviously points spare which I am still deciding on what to spend them on.

Edit: I dropped the power fist on the commissar and the lascannon on the Valkyrie. This gave me enough points to run a hot shot volley gun in each of the lion scion squads.

I believed that there WAS no stormtrooper doctrine now, only one of the specialty regiments, that replace it. The generic stormtrooper keyword being replaced, in the new codex, isn't a case of "run it as index with that obseleted gear" but a new datasheet supplanting the old.

As such, I think gorgonnes are a good go to for troops as support troops / deepstrike around and fire, they can put themselves in to double six specific nearest targets (usualy 9.1 inches distant) but their strat is very strong. You run a lot of plasma in your troop choice squads where I run HSVG, so that may color your decision, but I would say 6 inches extra range literally doubles their firepower on the drop in turn, and that's seriously good, while you only get 1/6 more with the various (and situational) double on a six strats.
I do not believe the two doctrines stack, meaning you get 6x2 on a natural six, OR an extra shot at under half range (I think that's the lions?) on a six, but not a natural one.
The autocannons on the tauroxes may struggle to kill marines in this meta -- a 3 up in cover becomes a 2 up, and -1 gives you back to 3. Only 1 more point of ap gives them 50 percent more effect on primaris, their natural target, and 100 percent more on things like centurionis.

Not bad, even if you don't happen to have the luxury of firing at 1/2 range all the time.

Lions get +1 ap to weaponry and their strat is hot shot does mortal wounds on hit rolls of 6.

Storm troopers is codex. Some of the stuff I saw was saying it wasn’t removed. If it has been removed I would go gorgonnes seeing as the guys I have painted up are in their colour scheme. Lions just have better stuff I reckon.

The idea is you can use kill zone to get auto cannons wounding on 2s after you kill a guy from the unit.
