Hi.

I'm looking to pick up a new case for my Tyranid battle force. I currently have a KR case which is getting full and am looking for a new case to build the Tyranid Bioswarm into.

Can anyone give me any recommendations. What size foam holes should I look for and in particular I have never built flying units, what's the best way to store them/build them for storage.

Thanks for any response.

Gargoyles are a pain to store and transport.
I just put mine tightly packed in a Tupperware with a sheet of foam to stop them rattling about.

Oli: Can I be an orc?
Everyone: No.
Oli: But it fits through the doors, Look!

Use tacky glue on the end of the flying stands; do NOT glue the stand onto the gargoyles, it will be a pain to store and likely break off. Look at KR website, they may have suitable gargoyle sets; otherwise I think the new GW zigzag cases would be suitable for odd models.

I glue mine to the stands and slap magnetic foil under and basing on the flight stand base. That way they are happy and safe on a metal sheet in a box.

Back when I had gargs I had a "pit" plucked out of a pluck foam tray that I just packed them into. Gargs are a nightmare to store and transport AND use on the table with their fiddly wings getting in the way of them moving around.

I sold them all off and never looked back.

Thanks all.

I might try picking up a big rather good storage box and magnetising it. Then also use it for my flyrant and carnifexes.

Not sure how the gargoyles may fit into my build got them as part of the swarm but I do like trying different things.

Hey dude!
I feel your pain... I used to have the metal ones back in the day..

I recently switched over to magnetic storage and away from using foam trays. And I haven't felt that good about a life choice in a while! Its a real life saver!!

Here is what I'd do:

Get yourself some Really Useful boxes (Asda, Reymans online etc.)
Pick the one you want for the size requirement, either bring a model you want to store to make sure it fits or take a measurement. Then pick up some self adhesive ferrosheets from tinytintroops.co.uk and a pack of N52 magnets from ebay. (they don't need to be big at all..)

You can either glue pennies to the bottom of bases and magnets on the sheet, (make sure they are real ones and not fake so they are magnetic) or glue magnets to bottom of bases using superglue/ GS etc. Just make sure they don't stick out the bottom so your models don't wobble.

Be mindful that you leave plenty space between models so you can get your hand in to pick up the model by the base rim as picking up by model might detach said model from base if magnets are strong enough.

I regret spending 60£+ on a KR case for my eldars… Don't get me wrong I will still use the foams as its Its great for standard sized troops like space marines, troopers plastic models, but anything finecast is getting warped and bits start breaking off anything that is even remotely spindly.

Thanks for the links.

Really Useful Boxes are amazing and worth the slightly increased price for whole box storage and connecting parts. I currently use one with all my left over pluck foam to store my land raider and rhino, then another perfectly fits the rulebook, codex, dice and tape measure.

Good call on bringing in a model.
Thanks for the advice and links. I think I'll go for magnetic sheet over pennies to make sure the entire base is covered except for my gaunts which tend to tip over.

Natural next question, what do you use to carry your RUB from A to B?

Ah.

The boot of a car/big gym bag?
Pretty much just jam them in and use various junk to ensure they are snug.
