Thinking of doing my ultra marines up as so:
2 rhinos (stock)
2 predators (predator auto cannons)
1 vindicator (stock)
1 Razorback (twin linked assault cannon)

1 demolisher squad (5 man)
2 combat squads (5 man)
2 assault squads (5 man)

Not sure what to do for the rest of the list as I still need
3 HQ units ( maybe just a captain, a librarian on a bike and I’m not sure for the third)
1 fast attack ( probably just gunna through in a bike squad)
3 elites????

Anyone have any idea of what I can use to fill these roles effectively whilst still using the idea of an armoured cavalry style and avoiding using Primaris marines( already have an army build of Primaris)? Any input would be helpful

You can use the GW website and make use of its filters. Space marines-fast attack or elite. See what models you like minus the primaris.

Are you looking to win games? If so:

-Tactical Squads suck
-Assault Squads suck
-Bikes suck
-Vindicators suck
-Rhinos suck

Tacticals are too fragile and have very limited offensive capabilities
Assault squads... Dedicated close combat units with one base Attack? Hell no.
Bikes are eaten by everything with damage 2 while having very little offensive Output.
Vindicators have limited range and only one very situational weapon while being not particularly resilient.
Rhinos cost the same as a drop pod, have the same transport capacity and are of no use at all for combat purposes (also like the drop pod) Drop pods get wherever you want instantly while rhinos have to cross the field to drop their load and are pretty fragile.

Oldmarines do have some useful units most of which are the various Veteran units combined with drop pods, devastators are okay too, Centurions are now very playable, all flavours of Dreadnoughts are nice...
You want Scouts for troops, *not* tactical squads.

Oldmarines can be built to hit really hard in close combat and have a way to get there pretty much instantly via drop pod. They do not have much else going for them actually.

Whatever you do, If you want to win games stay away from:

Tacticals, Assault Squads, Terminators of whatever flavour, Bike squads (Scout Bikes are kinda okay), Land Speeders, Land Raiders (excluding a Redeemer for Salamanders which can very much pull its weight in close combat), Attack Bikes, Vindicators, Rhinos, Hunters and Stalkers.

Hi Protruding,

Some general ideas: If you’re running 5-man Squads, I would generally suggest using Razorbacks over Rhinos. The extra fire support will augment your armour.

I believe that the Vanguard Vets are only a point or two more than assault squads, have an extra attack, and access to better gear.

Having a Techmarine or two kicking around to fix up your armour wouldn’t hurt.

your mind

Fast atts_ speeders for fast attack. Mostly because i just never liked marine bike models...
HQ_ captain, librarian and techmarine
Elites _ dread, vets and servitors or company champ

So I’m gunna run :
two preds with predator auto cannons
Two razorbacks with twin assault cannons
One squad of vanguard vets probably with jump packs thunder hammers and storm shields
One Dreadnought (still not sure on weapon loadout)
One ironclad Dreadnought with melta gun storm Bolter and chainfist
And then if vindicators aren’t that useful I’ll probably throw in another predator just not too sure what weapons to give it, probably just a twin lascannon
If rhinos aren’t that useful should I swap mine out for a command rhino? I kinda want to have a bit of variation in my vehicles
As for troops I’ll run two marine combat squads as a human shield haha
One scout sniper squad
I’ll throw in a captain with jump pack and combiflamer and power sword
For fast attack I’m gunna do a 8 man biker squad and a squad of 3 land speeder two with typhoon launchers and one with assault cannon
Librarian on a bike
Tech marine to help out vehicles
And for the last fast attack squad I’m still thinking of just chucking in a basic assault squad with one flamer

That should give me 3 heavy support
3 fast attack
3 hq
3 troops
3 elites
And at least 3 transports
That will give me 9command points for the ?battalion detachment? Can’t remember if that’s the correct name for that

I know that it’s not a competitive list and it will still take a bit to get my army up close and I’ll obviously take some casualties but I’m hoping there’s enough on the field to make it hard for my enemy to choose what to target? Let me know if this seems to be a bit better of a list then previous and thanks for all the feedback it helps alot
