not sure if this should be under 'tactics' or 'general discussion' - which is the best ultramarine weapon against a Necron Dooomsday Ark?

DDAs have a 4+ save, no invuln, and quantum shielding which works wonderfully against lascannon but is damned near useless vs spammed autocannon.

Bring 2dam-d3dam weaponry with -1 to -2 ap, and spam it. DDAs have 72inch range, so you'll need to be aggressive. Also, they get extra-painful within 12 and reasonably painful within 24. Either rush them or sit at 25-48 and spam 2dam.

Always Confident. Occasionally Correct.

Stalkers would work wonders. So would whirlwinds with vengeance launchers. Infantry wise suppressors or inceptors with plasma would work great too. T1 focus on clearing a drop zone for t2 to get them deep struck in and in range, since you would be in the tactical doctrine at this point deep striking in would not have any penalty so just light them up.

Assume you are playing 2000pts games. As Ultramarine, your best choice is spam Intercessors with Bolt Rifles, like 5 squads of 10. Even add the points of Marnues Calgar and a Primaris Lieutenant, it only cost you about 1200pts so you can still have other units or toys, like a Chaplain with Seal of Oath and Chief Apothercary. Move the blob into 30" inch to the DDAs in Turn 2 and you can start have fun. Assume you go second so likely lose 2 full squads before you reach your range, the rest 3 squads with Rapid Fire Stratagem on one of them should still on average take out 2 DDA in your turn.

You can also consider take Suppresors, 3 units of 3, drop them in Turn 2 near the buff characters, they will net you at least one DDA per turn even if Necron players use Quantum Deflection Stratagem.

What concerns Ultramarines should not be the DDA but the 3 Doom Scythes. Ultramarines generally like castle up to get the most out of their awesome buffing charaters and the guy who carries buffing relic like Seal of Oath, that makes perfect target for 3 Doom Scythes to put 3D3 mortal wounds on, and their buffing characters outside of Calgar and Guiliman are very vunerable to 3D3 mortal wounds to be honest.

One of the best units to take it out is a storm hawk interceptor or storm talon.

If we fail to anticipate the unforeseen or expect the unexpected in a universe of infinite possibilities, we may find ourselves at the mercy of anyone or anything that cannot be programmed, categorized or easily referenced.
