I have 5 imperial knights that are painted somewhat like chaos evil paint scheme, black and gold. I bought these off a friend who quit after 7th edition. They have all weapon load outs. 5 RFBC, AGC, Thermal Cannon, iron storm missile, the other missle, icarus autocannon, thunder strike gauntlet, reaper chain sword. No Cerrastus or Dominus class Castellan or armgiger helverins.

I have 2 choices:
1 Continue to use them as Chaos
2 Strip the paint off and go Imperial

Which is stronger?

The next thing is I want to use a minimum of 3 Imperial Knights supported by the loyal or disloyal 32 if that cp battery is still a thing. I really dont want to buy any more models and would like to utilize the 5 knights if possible.

Is it very unwise to cram 5 imperial knights into a 2000 army? I understand the need to use only 1 or 2 Imperial Knights supported by a traditional army but i have 5 and really want to use as many imperial knights.

The "hip kids" on the imperial side are running, often, 3 crusaders questoris in the admech houses, with one using ion bullwark (so 4++), with one using the 2+ armor set, and with the third one able to rotate shields each turn for another 4++.

Thats roughly 1500 points, which leaves open an admech support battalion ( 2 engseer, 3x5 skitarii) for 165 and a loyal 32 (I run a varient that has one psyker primaris, a tempestor prime, and 3 5 man scions, but most folk do the 180. Many will give each squad a mortar cause why not, although they cost more recently.)

There are enough points leftover to buy a nice manticore and give it "tank ace" (either -1 to damage, which makes it surprisingly resilient in a list with an engenseer nearby, or the one that gives it max damage output. Another good possibility would be a valkyrie to shuttle the gaurd around and generically annoy the enemy with a -1 to be hit in hover mode (a new Psy Awak strat.)

The most competitive knights player I personally know runs a varient of this with 1 gallant and 2 crusaders, and gives the gallant all sorts of charge. He backs up the set with several admech skorpius disintigrators (a new and underpriced direct and indirect medium tank) .. but before that, he used basilisks, manticore, and wyvern in the cadian brigade.

That leaves

Guard gaurd gAAAARDity Gaurd gaurd.

The PA book engine war will be releasing relatively soon. The book will have new rules for chaos and imperial knight so that might away what you want to play.
