Quick question. Can Armiger class models such as helverins be taken as part of an Ad Mech Detachment?

It depends, if they have a faction keyword that matches the rest of your army (Other than Imperium) then you can.

If not, then you can not. (well technically you still can, you just lose some rules).

This goes for any dataslate really.

I'll be more specific, are Questor Mechanicus units part of Adeptus Mechanicus detachments? Could you take a Questor Mechanicus Knight as a Lord of War in an Adeptus Mechanicus Supreme Command Detachment, for instance?

No. None of the Knights have the Adeptus Mechanicus keyword nor <Forgeworld> keyword.

Armigers do have the <QUESTOR ALLEGIANCE> keyword though.The rules for that are on P.90 in the IK book.

Bear in mind that Heleverins have the Lord of War battlefield role, so you will usually end up having to put them in a separate detachment anyway.
