Reduce the damage taken by 1.

Is that per hit? Per weapon? Per model?

I'm trying to understand how to resolve a crisis suit with 2 missile pods against an iron stoned dreadnought (and lets say after the 02/27/2020 FAQ to make it simple).

A missile pod has 2 shots, lets say both missile pods hits with all 4 total shots, wound with all 4, and do 2 damage per shot.

So.. without any damage reduction, we are doing 4 shots x 2 damage = 8

If the reduction is per hit, then 4 shots x 2 -4 = 4 damage
If the reduciton is per weapon, then its 4 shots x 2 -2 = 6 damage
If the reduction is per model, then its 4 shots x 2 -1 = 7 damage

I don't play space marines, never have, but I'd like to know this resolves if I ever play against them.

Thanks in advance.

Use this Stratagem when an Adeptus Astartes Dreadnought model from your army is chosen as the target for an attack. Until the end of the phase, when resolving an attack made against that model, you can reduce any damage suffered by 1, to a minimum of 1 (this is not cumulative with any other rules that reduce the damage)

----

The stratagem reduces the damage from all sources of damage by 1 so in your example they would take 4 damage total.

Remember that rolling saves and applying damage is on a per attack basis.

So when the dread goes to make a save and fails, he gets whatever damage is listed for the attack. If he has the strat in play, you reduse that by 1 to a min of 1.

So in your example:

The Tau player uses the fast roll rules and rolls 4 dice to hit, and scores 4 hits.

Then the Tau player uses the fast roll rules and rolls 4 dice to wound, and scores 4 wounds

Then the player with the Dread rolls saves one at a time, say he fails the first save, and the dread would normally take 2 damage, but instead takes only 1 because of the strat.

Then the player with the Dread rolls a save against the second shot and he fails again. The Dread would normally take 2 damage, but instead takes only 1 because of the strat.

Then the player with the Dread rolls a save against the third shot and he fails again. The Dread would normally take 2 damage, but instead takes only 1 because of the strat.

Etc...

Damage is suffered individually for every wound that isn't saved, so each 2 damage wound be reduced to 1.

Additionally, Mortal Wounds are always individual single damage attacks and so cannot be reduced at all.

Ie if you cast Smite and roll a 3 for how many Mortal Wounds it does, that is 3 separate instances of 1 damage.
