After taking a two decade hiatus from the world of tabletop wargaming, I returned in 2018 and have spent much of that time focused on improving my hobby skills. Between work, family and other obligations I don't get to do much actual gaming, but the hobby side of wargaming works perfectly for me. But I want to get more involved with hobby, and to that end I'm going to start sharing my weekly progress and goals on a number of platforms. This is the first of hopefully many weekly updates that I post here to the site. I've also posted my first You-tube video, a weekly blog that focuses on hobby motivation and is designed to be a bit of a "pace car" for other hobbyists be productive. Check it out here if you are interested (it's my first attempt, so please appreciate that the videos are a WIP themeslves and will evolve with time - feedback is appreciated!).

So my goals for the week of 2020-02-23
1) Finish five Imperial Guard for my Kill Team.
2) Assemble my Yu Jing Tag
3) Strip Infinity Maverick using LA's Totally Awesome.

Goal #1 - Finish Five Imperial Guard

The first goal I set for last week was completing five imperial guard, and I accomplished that. I've signed up for one of the Adepticon Kill Team events, and decided I would go with Imperial Guard. Small problem, I didn't have any imperial guard before a month ago - but finishing these five brings me to fourteen, and leaves me with just six more to completely fill out my roster (though 4 more will be enough for the list I have picked for Adepticon). I'm taking about three hours per model on these guys, and both the camo pattern and blue metal are new to me. I realize that the blue metal lighting is kind of borked in terms of representing real light behavior, but the models look good enough as a large group. I'm really happy with the camo pattern, which I got from Kujo's YouTube channel. The entire scheme is a rough attempt at Kujo's scheme for USAriadna, but there was a lot of new stuff there, and for this squad I've just focused on trying the camo and blue steel.

Goal #2 - Assemble Yu Jing TAG

My second goal for the week was to get this TAG assembled for another event I'm participating in at Adepticon. Getting this pewter model together was a real bear - it weighs at least a pound fully assembled, and the parts stick out at tough angles that absolutely require pinning to create any type of strong connection. Teeny-tiny dots of green stuff and lots of scoring at the joints was used to try to build the strongest bonds possible. I left the sword separate because I felt I could paint it easily enough apart from the model, and it sticks out so far from the rest of the body I just felt I might accidentally bang it against something if it was on there during the painting process.

Goal #3 - Strip Infinity Maverick using LA's Totally Awesome.

The last goal for the week was to strip this infinity model testing LA's Totally Awesome. I had been hearing about using this as a paint removal agent and actually bought some late last fall, but didn't have a good reason to use it till now. It did a fantastic job cleaning off this metal model, and also did a good job cleaning off some paint from some other GW plastic models. It didn't remove the primer from the GW models, which probably doesn't matter in the majority of use cases. Super Clean has been my go to paint removal agent, but now I'm curious which of the two performs better. There's no doubt that LA is Totally Cheaper, but a head to head comparison may be in order!

Setting Goals for the Week of 2020-03-01

So this coming week is pulling me in a bunch of different directions, but I really want to get ahead of the curve on finishing my Adepticon prep. I figured that I have roughly 12.5 hours to do hobby next week, and will try to achieve the following goals:

1) Complete Four Imperial Guard - This will bring me to the 18 models I need for the Kill Team event, the minimum I want for my roster.
2) Test TAG Paint Scheme - The TAG is assembled, but that's not even 10% of the work that will end up going into that model. I'm going to work on a Warmachine model that has some similar styling to see how I can achieve a strong orange paint scheme for this model. I've seen some good videos out there and will probably attempt to emulate those. I've got zero experience with big robots...
3) Compare LA and Super Clean - My curiousity is peaked, and I'm going to put these two cleaners head to head to see which of them does a better job stripping paint from models.

This is a pretty good idea, setting weekly goals. The Guardsmen look really cool. I like the guns. Looking forward to seeing you meet this weeks goals.
