I'm working on a campaign setting for an RPG and I wanted to throw in some Sub-factions to keep things interesting. And so all the Necrons, Tau, Eldar, etc... didn't feel the same. But I have no working knowledge on how the subfactions differ from one another.
I play Orks so I've already got their breakdown:
Feral Orks - Weapon of choice is choppas. Likely have grots and squigs.
Goffs - Weapon of choice is choppas/sluggas. Highly aggressive compared to other Orks as they are the warrior class, i.e. Brutal. Higher number of Nobs. Ork Boyz can become veterans known as Skar Boyz. Colors = Black with Black/White checker patterns occasionally.
Bad Moons - Weapon of choice is shootaz. Merchant class of Orks with a lot more teeth than other Orks, i.e. Kunning. Higher number of Walkers, Mega armour Nobz, and Flash Gitz. Colors = Yellow with Gold for more rich Bad Moons.
Blood Axes - Weapon of Choice is no preference. Strategically minded Orks that are more of an Officer class, i.e. Kunning. Higher number of Kommandos and Stormboyz. Colors = Camouflage (any color) and usually looted Imperial Vehicles.
Deff Skulls - Weapon of choice is shootaz. Salvage focused Orks that are essentially a hunter/gather class, i.e. Kunning. Higher number of Lootas and Burnaz. Colors = Blue with skull iconography.
Evil Suns - Weapon of choice is no preference. Vehicle experts of a transporter class of Ork, i.e. Brutal. Higher number of fast vehicles; trukks, warbikes, etc... Colors = Red, because red ones go fasta.
Snakebites - Weapon of choice choppa/slugga. Low tech experts that are tasked with herding grots and squigs as a sort of Farmer Class, i.e. Brutal. High number of Grots, Squigs, and Squiggoths. Colors = Browns, with lots of leather and more natural colors.
Freebootaz - Weapon of choice shootas. Mercenary class of Orks, usually with a high number of Bad Moon exiles, i.e. Kunning and Brutal. High number of Flash Gitz. Colors = None, but Pirate themed.
How would you describe other subfactions to new players?
