The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

Good to see them doing something with a less glamarous, but arguably far more important aspect of WWII than the usual.
As Elbows said, looks a little bit Hollywood, but they seem to have got the grim Atlantic conditions and desperation of the situation in there, so might be that the trailer's overcooking it.
Of course, it'll have a job on it's hand living up to Das Boot.

True. Nothing quite like Jurgen Prochnow screaming “ALARM” to get the hairs on your neck up!

I get the impression this is a real passion project; I think Tom Hanks must have read a history book about the Battle of the Atlantic and gone “how have I never seen this on screen?!”

Hanks has been a big WWII guy for some time, at least since Saving Private Ryan. I know he was one of the creators and producers of the Band of Brothers miniseries and produced The Pacific miniseries. This may be his first writing credit for a series/movie.
Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.

Not that I'm aware of. Every picture I've ever seen of a U-Boat is remarkably gray with nothing like that. Numbers were typical on the conning tower and maybe the Nazi flag, but nothing like the fancy stuff the boats in the trailer seem to have. The Kriegsmarine developed some elaborate camoflauge schemes, but nothing with red. They definitely never sailed that close to a destroyer. U-boats were ballsy sometimes, but not ballsy. The premise of the film also seems kind of misleading (historically speaking). Is Hanks' boat the only one escorting that convoy? There's a number of things wrong with the scenario the trailer seems to present, hideous CGI boats aside (Midway has ruined me, I can't take hideous CGI boats seriously).
Artistic license I think. The tower art might be a means of letting the audience distinguish individual U-boats in the story since it looks like it's Tom Hanks vs a wolf pack.

Some did, usually smaller Icons that don't take up most of the side of the tower. A Swordfish and Twin-Devils are two I remember immediately from one of many books I've looked at.

Yes, many u-boats featured some typical unit or ship insignia, but...not gigantic super-evil brightly coloured images like in the film - a bit of a hollywood dramatic license. Also looks like they're attempting to highlight which bad guy subs are which, maybe trying to give them more character. Seems a little silly to me, but I long ago gave up expecting "less is more" from most films.

Just slightly blown out of proportion cause there was a wide array, but like you said its all for the dramatic license. Probably to make the U-Boats into characters themselves, because other than the Boats, we have just the one Captain they have talking to Tom Hanks in the trailer.
