Bikes are obviously great choices for WS but I have a feeling that Primaris Bikes are going to drop soon. Certainly that seems to be a fairly well substantiated rumor at this point and I don't want to spend more time and money on what's out now only to have Primaris units drop a week later with improved stats and points values.
How do we rate Vanguard vets for WS? They look like a good option, but they are expensive and I need some clarification.
OK, so I'd be running them alongside a chaplain dreadnought for rerolls to hit. In assault doctrine, they'd be getting an extra 1 Damage on their weapon profile due to the white scars chapter tactic devastating charge, and would also get this on an Heroic intervention. They could also reroll wounds thanks to strike off the head which grants wound rerolls to everything within 6 inches.
Now, the rules for vets say that I can kit each model out with two of anything from the Vanguard equipment list. Does that mean I could kit each model with two power swords, which are S user -3 AP 2 damage? That would be 5 strength 5 2 damage attacks per model at those values, rerolling hits and wounds, correct?

A vv has 2 attack (3 when charging or getting charged). How do you get 5 already ?

Sorry you're right yes, 3 attacks per model. It's only chain swords that get extra attacks, and I'm not sure you get two extra attacks for having two anyway. Automatically Appended Next Post: Actually wouldn't lightining claws be better? Because they are an extra attack for having two, and in assault doctrine they're an extra -1 AP so assuming that stacks with the white scars chapter tactics, that would make each vet get 4 attacks at-3 AP because claws are -2 AP base.....

With lc, you pay for the ability to reroll failed wounds. But you said you already do thanks to strike of the head ?

Yes. One set of wound rerolls would be wasted/meaningless.
However, two lightning claws are only ten points, so only 2 points more expensive for an extra attack with the same AP value (I think unless someone else can correct me) during the assault phase.

I think dual LCs are good for Withe Scar, when in Assault Doctrine, it is almost sure better than Powerfists for White Scars against anything not T8. But sadly too many strong units, like IK, Leman Russ Tank Commander, Repuslors, even Tyranids gun beasts are T8.

Lightning Claws would be good (and not reliant on the Chaplain Dread) and 2 x Chainswords is also very good, no extra cost and 5 attacks each with -1AP and 2 damage with re-rolls to wound from a Chaplain. It depends what you want to use them for really.

True, but if I have the chaplain dread around the vets become S5 which is kind of a big deal, because at that point I can wound T8 things on 5+ rolls...
That's 20 attacks @ -3 AP S5 2D.

I don't rate dual chainsword too highly when you can get stormshield for 2 pts. LC is 6, pair is 10. Dual lightning claw or powerfist Sergeant, 2-6 chainsword/storm shield, 2-5 double chainsword, 0-2 dual lightning claw Vets. Keeps the unit relatively cheap relative to durability and offence. I wouldn't get more than 1 big squad, I doubt they'll be worth it without buffs and Stratagems due to morale, 0-3 5-man squads and 0-1 10-man squad.

Keep them cheap. Dual Chainswords, plain and simple. If you want something big to die you could do Thunder Hammers but they probably won't live to complete the objective. White Scars get that extra little bonus to make them survive though via hugging cover.
