So I've decided to start a Death Guard army, and picked up a Daemon Prince, and had an idea for the base, but wasn't sore if it was entirely lore friendly to the DG (I know it's not a major worry, but I was just more curious and wanted to find out).

Effectively, I was going to do a mud style base, with Plague Marines and Poxwalkers effectively rising from the ground (sorta zombie style). Is that something that fits with the Death Guard, or is the Zombie aesthetic straying from the army's lore and general feel?

Again, I know it's all about 'do your own thing', but I was moreso curious than anything else

Death Gaurd Daemon Princes are both lore friendly, and very effective in-game.

Your basing idea sounds great.

Zombies rising out of the ground was pretty much the first encounter the Imperium ever had with nurgle.
Plague Marines are sometimes described as killed battle brothers getting back up as bloated corpses, so that works as well.

So run wild

Yes, because everyone lines up on the deployment line when facing off against orkz, especially when said orkz are fielding 3 Bonebreakers...which rely exclusively on getting into CC to inflict any kind of actual harm. All of your arguments rely upon your opponent being a brain dead muppet who just lets you maul him.

Yea...that's called board control.

Yeah, I had a rough idea of them being killed battle brothers, especially after reading Flight of the Eisenstein and all. But I just wasn't sure if that was still the case, what with them being spawned from the energies within the warp.

Regardless, this is sort of what I've worked up for the Daemon Prince. Still need to actually do the base, but it's all blutacked for visual reference:

Yeah, there's a lot of room for interpretation. I've been doing toxic waste bases. A clear resin mixed with green paint swirled in.

This photo shows what it's like, but they look a lot better in person.

I LOVE them ! It pops well and it is very crisp and "light" if it makes sense ?
Looking forward seeing more of it.

Since you asked...

Here's an overhead shot of an unfinished batch of the bases. I make them with Magic Sculpt, pressing stone into the surface to create ridges and edges. Then I undercoat them with black and paint them with a dark purple before applying the toxic waste. Each base takes about 10 minutes to make, plus the 24-hour drying time.

Here's an image of a Plague Drone, pulled it off the base to show you what it looks like when you put some work into it. It's subtle when the drone is attached, but it really adds to the model.

I've been working on a complete DG army. Here's what's on my table right now. I'm a few weeks off from being finished. Some of my Chaos Knights are in there, their bases are themed too.

I'm in the middle of also rebasing all my Grey Knights. Doing a Chaos Dungeon Raider theme, they are carved into a thin sheet of putty. I'm probably going back with the airbrush for some additional highlights, but I want the contrast to be understated to keep focus on the model.

Holy gak those bases look amazing!! What do you use for the toxic waste? It really looks amazing, and I might consider trying that out instead of the Nurgle's Rot method I was gonna do

I use Art and Glow Clear Epoxy Resin. Probably any brand would do, only chose this because I got it on clearance for like $2.

To prepare it, I mix it in a small cup with a drop of Gretchin Green. I apply the mixed resin to lowered areas around the base using a toothpick, to create the impression of this stuff bubbling up from the soil.

After the resin is applied, I take 2 colors - Moot Green and Yriel Yellow - and pull tiny drops through the resin to create streaks of nasty stuff. I use a metal tool for this so I can clean it between bases, I don't want any resin accidentally getting into the pot.

Then I let it sit on a level surface for 24 hours. Dries rock hard but does give off fumes. Good idea to do this outdoors, you can lay them on a table and put a box over the bases to protect them from dust while they dry.

After the resin is in place, I do some highlighting on the surfaces around where the foot will rest, then apply some dry pigment to flat surfaces. This is what gives it the pop.

Square Bases for Life!
AoS is pure garbage
Kill Primaris, Kill the Primarchs. They don't belong in 40K
40K is fantasy in space, not sci-fi
