I just came to be in possession of a bunch of second-hand Tau. Among them are 8 crisis suits, the old kind. One of them is configured as a broadside and the rest seem to have a mixed loadout; one of each available weapon option.
So here is my question: With the crisis suit meta seemingly changing from edition to edition. What loadout would you give 8 available suits, if you were NOT to magnetize them (those tiny magnets are hard to come by around here).

PS: I notice a lot of people give them 3 of the same weapon. How does this work in terms of gameplay? With an attack characteristic of 2, do they get to fire all 3 weapons twice?

2 Weapon Systems, seems to work best. Right now, that's cyclic ion blasters (best), or missile pods (decent). Either way, your 3rd system is advanced targeting systems (gives additional Ap-1)

Now I only run old XV8s. I put the commanders on 50mm bases, and the rest stay on the 40mm bases. Commanders can have 4 systems, so you run 3 weapons of the same kind and advanced targeting systems.

The broadside you really want all missiles, but with the older style you are limited too railguns and smart missile systems.

You may fire all legally placed weapons, with each weapon able to choose its own target.

Thank you for the advice!

I'm not sure I have access to cyclic ion blasters, didn't those only appear with the new models? As far as I can tell, I can only choose from: Plasma rifles, burst cannons, Fusion blasters, flamers and missile pods.

Run missle pods for now, 2 per suit. You could still run plasma rifles and missile pods too. if you designate a model as a coldstar commander then 4 fusion blasters is a nasty fun package. Otherwise you may need to order CIB from 3rd parties on the internet.
