Subject: Battle report: Warhammer Fantasy campaign "Call of Darkness" Part II
Second part of our campaign! We played a scenario from the WH core book the other day with 1600 pts. "The Empire vs Warriors of Chaos". The scenario saw us battle for control of the Ancient Ruins on top of the most central hill. The Ruins granted various magical benefits for the Wizards in control of the ruins. It was truly magnificent game!
P.S. I appeal to all connoisseurs of Warhammer Fantasy. If we made mistakes during our game, please let me know, so that in the future these mistakes will not be repeated! Thanks!
P.P.S. I added to my battle report some stop motion animations for fun!

Just opened YouTube and it was top row of my homepage. Which is oddly good news as statistically I dont watch many videos from you.
Going to start it up now.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Watching as I type....

Call of Darkness....
Bright Wizard vs Sorcerer of Nurgle...
Bright smiley face from thr Chaos player, is that you?
Great terrain with chaos centrepiece....
Into the unit display pre-battle, as the go down the line the Shadow of the Horned Rat style music starts....

More moderate use of magic dice, that bright wizard is learning.
Chariots blow up when hit by cannon!
First kill. For Sigmar and Karl Franz!
Seven minutes in and 'these guys' are back. Missing signiture notation from of last battle.
Hellcannon frenzy animation. You guy are the best.
I like the Artillery tool also Got two.
Spell animation from the glowing hand on the centrepoint. It was dispelled. Nothing scarier for a miniature than being hunted down by a stop motion vortex template. Have mercy, they are only plastic.
More animations as the Hellblaster is overrun. Should never have advanced it. Miss a turns shooting if you need to.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Turn 2.
Heavy Empire assets all bunched up on the flank. While traditionally cavalry is a flank unit the historical parallels only go so far. You need big heavy fighters in the centre unless you are fast enough to set up an outflank.
Noooo. Steam tank hits every tree on the way through.
Ok you set up the flank now. Lets hope you can exploit it later.
Chaos charges in like the storm. Marauder horse proved their worth, now they got another charge in. Cannon is sorely beset.
Death Vortex is cast. Nurgle sorcerer cackle animation, the casting goes awry and killed all the Marauders. More cackling as they worship the wrong god! Slaanesh worshipping fools die like southland dogs, all for the glory of Nurgle.
Miscast. Love the sneer animation on the sorcerer.
Chariot makes up for bad spellcasting. Runs down halberdiers, with suitable animation and sound effects of course.
The pendants of Morr the gun crew wear saved them. They open their eyes after the shrieking vortex has passed, all their adversaries have been killed and they are spared.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Turn 3.
Steam tank got lucky, managed to keep it together, and ram the chaos spawn. No animation? and it says hello? give the animator a poke for me please.
Handgunners move through forest. Dont be afraid to move trees to fit units. The forest is area terrain, trees can be moved to fit as needed.
Upgraded fireball cast. Disappointing result, but fire magic is anti horde and doesnt do well against elite high armour or toughness targets. Bright wizard does his best though and dice management is much better than last time. Though some poor target choices were made.
Now you had a spell cast you should have Kindleflame, but you forgot.
Canon rakes fire through the unit. You dont need to roll dice singly, only do this for characters or if you are shooting monsterous units. Ordinary infantry do not stop the cannonball if they survive, only monsterous units do that. So if you shoot ogres and one doesnt die, the cannonball stops, but chaos warriors do not stop it.
But we get a cannon animation now. Love it. I enjoyed that so much I replayed it.
Good shooting sons of Nuln.
Steam tank rolls impact hits. More impact hits than a Stornhorn on crack.
'Bye bye spoon!' You mean't 'there is no spoon.'
Chaos punished by Fulminating Flame Cage, but charge into battle.
Nurgle blesses his sorcerer for his courage against cleansing fire. Enough power to cast all his spells, the bright wizard stops but one.
The Vortex returns and eats....
Only the handgunners. The Empire were blessed, their gods are with them as Demigryphs march out of the vortex unharmed alongside the steam tank.
Hellcannon fails.
Challenge! The lowly champion stands his ground and parries all attacks but one, but the heavy meat cleaver hit cuts through armour and flesh, with a suitable bloody animation.
The Bright wizard survives the unholy blades, the BSB, weakened by chaos wound is sure to fall, but he lives to strike back.
Snarl off of the wizards. Empire soldiers hit many times but do not draw blood. Battle is not looking too good.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Turn 4.
Heavy assets charge in from flank into the Chaos infantry.
Lone handgunner runs away, forgive him, he came out of that vortex and saw things man was not meant to know.
Magic phase indecisive. Moving on.
Both cannon shoot and destroy the Hellcanon. Chariot left alone for now, but its facing the wring way, so you have time.
Hellcannon destruction animation.
On to the combat. Nurgle sorcerer disappears beneath the steam tank, with a wet sickly squish (not animated). Chaos Lord only kills one halberdier as the BSB runs from him. Other chaos warriors turn on the wizard but he endures their foul blades.
Wasnt chariot facing the other way?
Anyway it wheels around and hits the halberdiers in the rear.
Impact hits unimpressive. Lord however catched up and butchers the BSB. another animation.
Wizard dies wailing.
Halberdier sandwich lasts longer than expected.
Trees destroy the chariot where blades fail.
Now the steam tank and warriors face off. Steam tank blows a gasket and billows steam. Causing injuries all around. Chaos lord attacks inanimate object, and learns he needs to go back to axe school.
Doesn't the steam tank captain get a pistol attack in close combat?
Grind in combat continues. Animation as BSB killed by demigryph. chaos lord continues to chip away at tank ineffectively. Probably hasnt realised he is the only chaos warrior left.
Battle is over. Loved it.
Pity that the engineer didnt run over to the objective and stand on it.

and its a good thing to. According to the old meme if you call a Chaos Spawn out loud by its real name, you turn into one. We called them Pawns of Chaos, Chaos Prawns or anything except whast they are called. Chaos Spoon is a good call.

Ok! Thank for tip!
Tip is for the empire player! You know well enough to punish him if he advances with artillery. Tell him from me, be patient with your ranged assets, if you cant shoot miss a turn if you have to, though try not to let that happen, The Hellblaster is intended to support a defensive line. Place it between two melee infantry blocks, slightly back so it has good field of fire, but any unit charging will hit the units to its flank.
Tell me please maybe you know, how many attacks have sharioters 2 ore 4?

The Charioteers are each the same, this is true for all armies. So ignore one is a driver, both count as warriors. Best way to look at it is the warrior fights twice as hard so the driver can drive, reasonable as you get the best warriors for the chariot.
If you put a character on the chariot the remaining crewman has normal attacks, even if not modelled this way.
So both figures on chariot are chaos warriors with halberds, even if one is the driver.
Tips for Chaos.
I like your army, it is more interesting because it doesn't consist entirely of hard to kill models. The horsemen make for an exciting game, because they can flank, but also Empire soldiers can defeat them if lucky. Still would like to see more units and larger armies. A flying monster can help with the artillery and steam tank.
Tips for Empire.
There is not enough infantry. Now the BSB is out of action time to replace him. Also consider a different wizard. Gold wizards are very good against chaos, Bright wizards are better at fighting things like orcs. Still the army is mostly ok, but you need 30 halberdiers in a unit to hold, and you need two such units.

Another Empire Tip: If you want a wizard general on the front line against a nasty melee army like Chaos. Take Van Horstmanns Speculum.

Fair enough, place him in a missile unit then. Bright wizards cant really do much if in combat, except die, they require LOS for most of their spells.
