I'm coming back to the game after about 12 years (maybe more!) off and putting together an Imperial Fists army (poor timing given the recent nerf bat to Dev Doctrine!). I'm starting with 1,000 points as a few of my mates have also started collecting again and we're looking to get a little group going. At the moment, one of them plays Drukhari (four raiders filled with dudes) and the other is playing AM and starting with a tank company (Leman Russ BTs plus Hellhounds, c. 5-7 tanks I think). Obviously I want this to work for a range of opponents but I've tried to keep that in mind. I've included the Cents as I had already bought them and I'm quite keen to include at least some if I can!

I've also played around with swapping out the Whirlwind for a Stormhawk Interceptor (thinking about the Raiders) or a Vindicator, although both would require adjusting the unit composition (i.e. dropping a Centurion, swapping one of the Intercessor squads for another Scout squad). I've also played with dropping the Cents and adding a Repulsor Executioner - think I'd miss the heavy bolter spam though!

I've also got some Infiltrators I could swap in if that would be more effective than one of the current troop choices.

Appreciate any comments/criticism - very aware that in its current state it's weak on high strength AT which may cause issues with vehicles/monsters but I'm hoping the combination of Seige Breaker Cohort (Seismic Devastation) on the Cents (or the Vindi if I sub in that) and the smash captain can help manage that. I haven't played 40K in years and this is my first list so bound to be some interactions that don't actually work in practice!

That's a great strat / centurion pairing, its terrifying.
Taht being said, I suspect your major problem will be scraping the enemy off of your centurions because many opponents both deny overwatch and WILL make the charge, and once wrapped, you stand to lose your sunday punch if you can't unwrap.

OTOH, 5 centurions is pretty terrifying at 1000 points.

Imperial Fists worry a little less than most about scraping melee units off of Centurions, they have a Strat called Close Range Bolter Drill that turns all of your Bolt weapons into Pistols for the turn. (I'd also normally recommend trying Grav Cannons on the Cents instead of Heavy Bolters since they cost the same now and Heavy 4 S5 Ap3 Dd3 is frequently better than Heavy 6 S5 Ap1 D1, but IF don't care so much.)

[edit] On the other other hand, if you're spending a strat to let your Cents wipe a melee unit who's only job was to keep them from shooting their preferred target then that melee unit already accomplished it's task. [/edit]

If you're worried about flyers a Stalker is a good alternative to the Whirlwind against DE.

If you're worried about Russes ... you're right to worry since they're hard to hurt fast enough. The Cents with Siege Breaker will help, but if your AM opponent goes first you won't have any Cents when your turn rolls around unless you really deployed well. I would suggest that a Lieutenant will probably serve you better than the Librarian, neither the basic Marine powers nor the IH specific ones are all that good (and you have nothing to use the Phobos specific ones on), but rerolling 1s to-wound will maximize the Siege Breaker strat. ...actually that's true regardless, Librarians are tough to get working properly.

To be fair, five Russes at 1000 point is a list that I have not figured out how to counter with Marines, so any advice I might have needs taken with a grain of salt.
