Hi people. So I have a non-Primaris SW collection, but I just bought the Apocalypse Primaris battalion set. At first I thought about making them SW, but then I realized that it wouldn't be the optimal way to use them since Primaris are more range-oriented, while the SW rules favor cqc. So I though that maybe another chapter would be recommended. Problem is, I am unsure which one. What would you recommend and why ?

Primaris Captain
Intercessors Squads x3
Redemptor Dreadnought
I'm not a fan of the Redemptor myself but since its there, DIY Iron Hands looks optimal.

Build a couple of packs of Intercessors with Auto Bolt Rifles and Thunder Hammers on the pack leaders. Use the Veteran Intercessor strat to give them +1 and the pack Leader gets 5 TH attacks on the first round of combat hitting on a 3+ thanks to the SW trait.

A half-SW half-IH list is going to be weaker than an all-SW list with a few sub-optimal units. You'll be losing a chunk of power without your super doctrine, it isn't super high impact but 20-25% more hits in melee is at least good and could be amazing if you're building with it in mind.
I'm not buying the idea that Intercessors are a sub-optimal unit for SW. You need CP and Intercessors are decent in melee, no Scout troops leave you with Tacticals or Blood Claws. Blood Claws do synergize better with your army rules, but you need something to hold objectives and Intercessors are really good at that job between having good shooting, decent survivability and decent melee. Piling Intercessors into a problem can work in suffecient numbers, with thunder hammers they can pack a real punch.
I don't know if it's any comfort but Redemptors having a fist makes them significantly harder to tag and forget with some units, unlike Mortis or Leviathan dakka Dreads.

For intercessor heavy lists id be tempted to run them as ultramarines or ultramarine successors now due to their super doctrine which allows units to act as if they remained stationery even if they moved while the army is in the tactical doctrine.
This can be very handy for moving up and using the rapid fire stratagem on a unit of 10 bolt rifle intercessors (Making their bolt rifles rapid fire 2) and just mowing down anything they see with 40 ap - 2 Bolt shots.
Even the redemptor gets far far better as an ultramarine because his normal drawback is that he wants to be moving around shooting at things then charging into them but as soon as he moves hes at BS4 which isn't great.
I would personally run them as Ultramarines with 2 X 10 strong squads with bolt rifles to march forward and deal death with the captain and the redemtor in tow , and 2 x 5 man squads with stalkers to sit back on objectives.
Other option is do imperial fists and just sit back and enjoy exploding sixes on all bolt weapons.

If you want a strong Intercessors based force, you gotta get the Vigilus supplement and use the Specialist Detachment that lets the Warlord confer two different Chapter Tactics on them all. It can get pretty absurd as Raven Guard + Iron Hands or added Imperial Fists or Ultramarines for safe falling back...
Point is, it can get pretty bonkers.
