Yes, any model can hold objectives unless specifically have a rule saying otherwise.

Most armies have a rule saying if you have Troops in range of an objective you automatically control it unless the opponent has a similar rule, so normal drone units dont help hold against enemy troops.

To flip the question around, why would you think they cannot? Any model can hold an objective unless something says otherwise. Troops simply have an easier time of doing so.

Probably a hold-over from 7th edition where a unit composed entirely of drones could not score.

I was told by a veteran gamer at my club a couple weeks ago, I had to hold the objectives with my commanders because drones couldn’t because of some faq.

There is no such FAQ.

If in doubt always ask to see the FAQ they are talking about.

I think right now, correct me if I am wrong, that the only models that can not hold objectives are models with the Flyer type.

There are a few other examples - Spore Mines and Feculent Gnarlmaws, for instance.

Maybe that was what he was talking about

Yeah, but again, they have bespoke rules on their datasheet that say they cannot. No FAQ needed.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.
