Probably the thing I am missing the most about my normal routine at the moment, I can do a bit of shadow boxing and solo drills but most of the fun stuff is out.
Anyway, I'm sure there will be many in this forum that partake or have done in the past, share your journeys. Mine is fairly straight forward, I got into Muay Thai about 10 years ago, not long after than I started MMA, discovered I like the grappling side of things more, but still kept up my stand up. About a year ago I finally started properly training in the gi for BJJ after a few flirts with it before (like 4 sessions), got my blue belt in December which is hilarious for how long I've been training but so be it. Had an MMA fight about 5 years ago, slightly tempted to have another to give me something to train towards but otherwise, hopefully it won't be another 10 years till I get my blackbelt in BJJ but if it is, then so be it.
I've dabbled in other MA's over the years, catch wrestling, kickboxing, Keysi (RIP), some 10th planet BJJ and a few Filipino styles as well but I've been fairly consistent in the 10 years of it being mainly Muay Thai and No-gi grappling.

As a kid I dabbled in various martial arts and high school wrestling. More recently I've been fairly heavily into HEMA for the past 5 or so years, competing at an amateur level in Longsword, was supposed to be going to Prague this month for a Sabre competition but that obviously got nixed.
Being stuck at home, it means my space for training is limited, and the risk of cutting ceiling fans and the like limits what I can do currently, the lack of drilling and training partners is a downer, and I miss sparring. Fortunately I can still practice footwork, lunges, etc.

I dabbled in kickboxing and muay Thai for a time in my late teens, then did a little MMA with my friend, but I only really trained for fitness whereas he went on to win a few amateur bouts. He's a really good grappler whereas I always stayed more towards the striking side. lately I haven't really done much other than a little bag and pad work whenever I came across the equipment.. Most of my training now is for powerlifting and strength, but I still enjoy jump rope for cardio.

I got a black belt in shotokan when I was in highschool. Don't remember much of the fancier stuff, but you really don't forget how to ride a bike once you learn. The muscle memory for blocking and punching is all still there.
Shame I'm a wuss and it's all wasted on me

I started with Muy Thai and Arnis in high school. Then went in the military and did nothing but workout and run(actually I did get a chance to train some Muy Thia when i was apart of Operation Cobra Gold twice). After the military I went back to Muy Thai till I eventually got into Krav Maga. Did that for several years until I then got into BJJ. I did no gi for several years but now I've recently started doing gi. Now I mainly do gi BJJ with a little bit of Muy Thai here and there.

I'd done some tae kwon do way back in middle school, then did armored combat with the SCA for a few years. 2 years back my son started into BJJ, and I also started after I was helping him warm up and he proceeded to toss me onto the mat and pop me into an arm bar. He was 1/2 my weight at the time, and I was so proud! I also realized I needed training myself in order to help him progress.
It's been an absolute blast. Since quarantine, we've fashioned a grappling dummy and have been trying to drill every day.

In my case it was a lot simpler journey. I did karate for a looong time. It was a big part of my life actually, and my best friends are the ones i met during mu training time. Went to few tourneys both local and global and got a few medals, but I was never a competetive type. What i loved was a social aspect, and a martial art mindset. Beating each other in a sports manner really bring people close together
I Tried some Judo, but didn't like it and tried some Kobudo but didn't have the time.
After my daughter was born, my me-time was the one thing that suffered the most, and I had to quit.

I never did the traditional martial arts route (as stated above where I disclosed my own history). It's something I've always tended to shy away from, but I do question whether I have missed anything as part of it.
I'd love to have multiple black belts across arts just for the accomplishment factor of it. I might do my kickboxing belts, which are effectively karate belts in the UK (I think it's a similar system in the US), but that doesn't mean you don't have traditional karate types of places here also.
I may do it, the main goal I have is to get a purple belt in BJJ then move into the higher belts from there, but it would be nice to break it up somewhat. I think I'd potentially teach again at some point also (use to teach an MMA beginners program for a few years), to accrue another revenue stream whilst doing something I enjoy, but that requires the black belt in kickboxing mainly and obviously BJJ in the distant future.
I've always been curious about kung fu, but then I do doubt the efficacy of some arts, kung fu is one of them. It delves into something I mentioned in the conspiracy thread where I think it's unethical and dangerous to teach some as self defence, as a lot of what is taught can be judge as 'fake' martial arts in ways.

Began Shotokan Karate and practised that on and off since I was a teenager (never got past green belt, though). Inspired by Leon S Kennedy from RE4 who was my hero, I suppose. Began very uncoordinated and, well, terrible but years later managed to perform feats such as kicking flies out of mid-air and sprinting ten metres in .86 of a second, also 'flash stepping' during a sparring match and coming second in a speed punching contest at my club (would've come first but the person doing the Kiai to punch went way earlier than I thought they would)
Practised Tai Chi for a while as well as Katana after I fell in love with sword practice during a class where we briefly practised it. Most of which is self-taught still managed to hold my own against a HEMA practitioner or two at Armageddon, despite never going up against a sword and board before.
Nowadays, don't do much, frigged my knees pretty bad after practising Parkour and mostly use my martial art experience for writing action and fight scenes in my stories.
Also, because of laziness, a lot of laziness lol
