It's actually faster because of the tools the community has made. Dice rolling is a lot faster and army creation is a doddle too. If you go to the Subreddit to get the discord link, we're all happy to help you.

It completely goes to hell when you need to pile in or when moving around terrain or when you accidentally bunch up your unit into a ball. So don't try playing a green tide in TTS. Otherwise, it's decent, but not a replacement for playing with your own models.
You do know you can disable that, right? Or are you just going to complain about stuff that is user error and blame it on the program?

I've used TTS a fair bit and didn't know that either.
In UX, what management likes to call 'user error' is what we call 'bad design'...
Set your physics to "Locked" mode.
I agree, there should be an easier and more explicit setting, and it is bad UX, but it is still there and a very simple "How do I disable clumping" in the discord would take you all of 6 seconds.

You can't disable it without also disabling a bunch of other features which are quite helpful for certain tasks. But of course, you knew that, as usual being technically right is infinitely more important to you than being helpful.
You are also telling me that asking on a discord which is in no way related to the actual software, which is not actually documented anywhere and - worst of all - seem to have the extremely helpful you as a member, somehow turns a major problem of TTS (not only for 40k players) which is well documented and known to the developers since at least 2017 into a user error on my side that I have no right to blame the program for.
Bad UX is a software defect. Just because a workaround exists doesn't change the fact that the software is defective, and a user has every right to complain about defective software. That the workaround isn't even documented properly and that you have to actively ask a hard to find community to know about it makes it worse, not better.
You would do well to apply the same standards to rules and software. Anything else is just hypocrisy.
I was talking about asking on the official Tabletop Simulator Discord, but you do you.

I’m still learning about the game (TTS), but the online tutorials are really helpful. The program has evolved a lot since it was first released, and playing with it for about 10-15 minutes before jumping into trying a game helps a lot.
The host has to promote the guest for them to spawn models in. The base map mod will automatically do that for you

Being unable to find options seems the biggest problem. Not only is TTS extremely un-intuitive, but many tutorials are showing/referring to outdated versions, which have essential things like how to import your army work completely different. The modules which contain armies also vary wildly in quality, and picking the right table to play on also massively impacts how well the game works.
Once you have played a game or two, most of the difficulty is gone, but the learning curve is extremely steep. The best way to start your way with TTS is finding someone who already knows what's going on and have them teach you.
It's almost like there has been a concerted effort in the last few months to create some sort of compilation of mods to improve on these aspects, or something.
Honestly, it seems that your experience of TTS is not reflective of the current situation. The discord is extremely active, with dedicated mentors. We've created an easy to install compilation of curated mods for armies. The community has created tools such as Battlescribe2TTS and a host of map making and using tools.

And to be honest, I initially dodged most of the stuff with your name on it, simply because I feared of it would be of the same quality as your posts on dakka. If it weren't for other (quite helpful!) people from dakka recommending it, I still would do so.
You were afraid they would be well cited and factually correct?
If you're not willing to use a good tool because you dislike the creator, I don't know what to say really. I still use Notepad++, for example.

In short, if you're willing to spend a little bit of time learning a new piece of software with the same learning curve as just about any other piece of software, come join us on the subreddit and discord and feel free to ask any questions. We're a friendly bunch.

Jidmah when literally everyone else is saying they were able to get their head around it, does that not perhaps say more about your unwillingness or inability to do so?

I checked the OP and didn’t see these linked. Can you link to the correct subreddit and discord here? I’d love to check this out.
I don't know if the Dakka mods will allow me to post the links, so I have PM'd you.

I am going on the assumption this thread should be used for TTS discussion rather than making a new threads.
So Phubar and I have worked on some very tasty enhancements for the my base map. It now has a dice spawner and scripts that let you more easily select or delete rows of dice(e.g. select all 1's to re-roll them, delete all 3 and below so you can roll to wound). In the works are a phase by phase turn tracker (as opposed to the current turn by turn) and full bubble range checking meshes for each base size. I hopefully this weekend will try and make a few tutorial videos explaining how to get started and get everything working.
