A further refined version of an earlier list. This time I took out the CSM, a Chaos Spawn, and Deredeo Dreadnought, as well as removed the thunder hammer from the exalted champion. In exchange I put in two squads of Warp Talons and another Daemon Prince. These were placed in a separate outrider detachment. The troop slots were refilled with some cheap Cultists.

Nice. I'd make the outrider a Night Lords detachment to get the best use out of the warp talons. Raptor strike, we have come for you, hit and run, prey on the weak, and vox scream make them nasty. I'd also make them one squad and break up the chaos spawn to fill the slot. But to each their own.

It’s a good idea, but I’d like to keep it a mono-legion army.

It still bothers the hell out of me that this is a "World Eaters" army... with mark of Slaanesh.

One has to wonder. Do the Tyranids consider drop-assault troops... fast food?

Oh crap, thanks for letting me know, it’s supposed to be Word Bearers

Excellent. Dig the adherence to mono-legion.

Thanks, I thought something was up when my inner neck-beard was screaming like a shanked grot.

It's weird seeing cultist without any real support, save for the Exalted Champion.

I would suggest dropping the wings from the princes, or make one of the either a standard lord, or a terminator lord. Then find a way to fit either a Dark Apostle in with the cultist, or take advantage of their special weapons. Because if you're going to use them as some form of gun line, you could always squeeze some extra dice out of them.

I think there is a current build for a cheap traitor force that's right at 200pts. With 32 models all together. But I'm not sure if it's codex compliant.

You could also drop the fist of the champion and give him a plasma pistol, so he can have something to do without being in melee and still fire the thing in melee as well. Plus the higher hit and re-roll means he can overcharge the thing all he likes.

Yes, a battalion, Supreme Command, Vanguard, and Outrider detachment.

Actually, if you don't mind me asking. What is your overall strategy going to be here?

Because pushing that death ball up the field, and the warp talons will have to be considered an expendable force with how many options each army has to deal with them. Even outside of not having over-watch. Your best bet is getting the greater possessed into the mix to help beef them up and even with prescience, that could be only come up about at turn 2.

I did have a Deredeo Dreadnought to provide cover fire but was told I should take it out

Why? A daredeo is always a good idea. Who doesn't want all that firepower hitting on 2s?

This was the response given to me:

15 Possessed with some help, kill a baneblade in a single round, so anti-tank in general isn't the issue. Probably just flyers. At best the deredeo, will need 3 rounds to drop one, asssuming you are giving it prescience and its using its anti-flyer ability. But....

Why not double down on your combat pressuring. Drop the Deredeo, take your CSM drop them down to basic cultists. Bring a flying lord with cursed crozarius and 3 x 5 warp talons (they are daemonic!!!) If you land VOLW buff on the talons they are wounding anything in the air 75% of the time :-), just like the posssessed are on the ground. And 5 talons with neverborn stratagem, take out an eldar flying in a single round of combat. That's far better than a sitting duck Deredeo.

Well, it isn't wrong, if you can get them there. Warp talons have the same problem as any melee unit, they need to make the charge. And to my knowledge Word Bearers don't have anything to help with that. But if you make the charge roll it should work. Just pray to the dice gods.

So am I better off with the Deredeo or the warp Talons?

Either way. You are playing mono-faction, so its much much harder to be competitive. PLUS... no dark apostle? Ouch!

However if you are running 4 detachments then more likely to be open play, vs tournament (no more than 3 detachments unless otherwise stated). You could run the warp talons in a host raptoral specialist detachment cause they aren't part of the the daemonkin ritualist as written(research this, and then you are charging with +2's, but you wont' want to have the chaos spawn and the DP needs to be replaced with a jump pack lord) . But now you are getting to the point where you don't have enough CP without a 2nd battalion.

A deredeo to hit on 2's is misleading. You need any 2 of the 3.
1. Needs disco lord for +1
2. Need prescience from sorcerer for +1
3. Or needs flyer and having stated they are using their anti-flyer mode.
4. Is there another?

And then with the weapons you were going to use on the deredeo earlier, it wouldn't have been enough to discourage a flyer. It could have punched holes in screens to allow for a better assault. BUT... it wasn't set up well enough for clearing screens (i.e. all weapons doing the same job). So I recommend more mellee instead.

Warp Talons... true, don't deepstrike them expecting to get a charge off (you'll definitely need to use a command point just to get an almost 50/50 chance). Have them run up the side or deep strike into spots where they won't get shot up. Then you set up for a turn 2, everyone gets into combat turn.

In short, don't run mono-faction, do find all rules sources for your army, and DO take advantage of all of them. Stay focused, have a plan. A hammer is better than finesse if you aren't sure. Also when in doubt, Alpha Legion is better :-)
