Yes, you are wrong. The Chapter Master special rule affects models "whilst their unit is within 6" of this model." If even a single model is within 6" of the Chapter Master, the unit is within 6".

BRB FAQ clarifies the difference between "Within" and "Wholly Within".

Conga lining Marines is pretty much a ubiquitous tactic!

Most aura abilities characters have just need one model in range to affect the whole unit, but there are exceptions. As BCB said, it depends whether it affects units in range, models in range, or units wholly in range.

When in doubt, just ask to see your opponent's rules!

Thanks a lot! Good thing I was mistaken. It was a friendly game so I didn’t want to ask to see the rules. Didn’t want to be that guy.

Доверя́й, но проверя́й. Trust, but verify. It's never a "that guy" move to ask "Can you show me the rule that lets you do that? Ah, I see, that's awesome!"

Agreed. It all depends how you ask. Just be friendly about it, use a tone of interest rather than being defensive.

It works for Guard Orders and Commissar's Aura of Discipline too...

I often daisy chain a couple of Stormtroopers to put a single model within the aura/command range for the outer squads... It's very effective!

I will not rest until the Tabletop Imperial Guard has been reduced to complete mediocrity. This is completely reflected in the lore.
