Hey gang. I have resisted buying digital books forever. I wish I had just bought one. The epub file format is driving me crazy.

I think the problem is that GW optimizes their stuff so people can read it on phones or tablets; I have no interest in doing that; I'm not trading my laptop display for a four inch screen.

I run Windows 10, so the Azardi Reader recommended by Warhammer Digital isn't an option- I could only find downloads for Windows 8.

I've tried 3 e-readers- Epub, Calibre and Bibliovore. Calibre is closest to working- it's just the very right hand side of the page that's cut, so you miss the last word or two of each line. The other two are worse.

I wish they just read like PDFs. I don't need true page integrity. I don't mind a viewer that lets me two finger touch screen zoom, and the Epub reader does- it's just that the zoom option has to be reset every page.

Has anyone had a good experience with a GW epub on a computer screen? And if so, what reader did you use?

Don't buy GW epubs if at all possible. The format they use is horrendous. If they're optimizing that stuff for tablets, it certainly ain't for any of the tablets I use.

If you're not buying Sigmar books through the Sigmar app, I would go second party, paper, give up and find a different book in that order.

I use Azardi on a windows 10 machine and have no problems with it. Just reinstalled it from here - http://azardi.infogridpacific.com/azardi-download.html and it works fine on the three books I tested it on (all epub3).

That's where I got the copy I tried. I get:

{Illegal System DLL Relocation}

Which prevents it from installing. I'm trying to Install the reader on my work laptop, and we might be running a pro edition, or my tech team may have tweaked the security settings... I'll try the link on my home PC.

Adobe Digital Editions is super basic but it’s free and has worked for me.

Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.

Honestly best answer? Get a proper e-ink tablet. NOT a tablet, a e-reader.

If you can tolerate reading a standard novel then a tablet is, honestly, better to read in all ways except that you don't get the new-book-smell.

The screens have no glare and the newer paperwites from Amazon have built in backlights which make them effortless to read in any lighting. They work fantastic for novels where you're basically reading from start to finish in a book. You can adjust the font size to a comfortable size for you and page turning is a breeze.

Even on dedicated reading forums where you've people who are die-hard book fans, I've yet to read of anyone who honestly gave e-readers a go and hated it. Especially the more modern ones that work well and have generally good features. The other bonus is that e-readers don't do your email; they don't do your facebook (though Amazon ones do now to good-reads). They do books - nothing but books. Using calibre you can easily upload books from your computer to an ereader and I think you might find it far more enjoyable to read on than the computer screen.

I'm also using Azardi - it's not great, but it's the only one that works properly out of many tools I tried.

Outside of hardware drivers, anything that works for windows 8 also works for windows 10.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe.

"Buy a E-Reader" is not the best answer for "how do I read GW epubs on a laptop computer?"

Sadly, adobe seems to have the font problem most readers have.

Have you tried using Calibre to convert the epubs to a different format? I'm sure I've seen a PDF option somewhere.

Personally, I wouldn't dream of reading a book on my laptop, Kindles are much more comfortable (even the basic model has the backlight now), but that's up to you!

I guess he wants to read the rulebooks, not novels. I'm getting an e-ink device soon, but I fear they are useless for rulebooks. The formatting is just to strict and not scalable like novel text with all the pictures and frames and boxes.

Use Sigil to open the epub, remove Font Obsufication, then use 7Zip to extract the epub into raw xhtml files.
