Like so many other people i always seemed to have models i never get around to painting....for various reasons...until now. since the time i usually spend at the
FLGS (12+ hours on saturdays) playing is no longer happening i decided it was about time i made some effort on getting paint on models.
The lighting in my game library/storage isn't the best and for some reason the images have a bit of a yellow tinge to them but that being said lets get started-
First up a new edition-
company-nuclear shrimp
medium-resin cast
scale-28mm
Model-HURK heavy walker
I used magnets for the torso and arms so it stands a bit taller than the official website pics
Front-
It was comparatively inexpensive coming in under $40 and i intend to use it as a doredeo for my 30K army.
Next up is the big part-
company-DUST (1947)
medium-plastic
scale-28mm
primed/ready to play version.
As fans of the game are familiar you can buy DUST minis is 3 different formats
1.un-assembled model kits
2.pre-primed and decaled fully assembled kits
3.completed fully painted kits
The price goes up for obvious reasons from option 1-3
Just getting into the game and getting lots of deals on the transition from the fantasy flight release to the in-house DUST studio releases i opted for the primed ready to play option.
The AXIS faction was my first foray into the game so i had started painting many of those units. i enjoyed the game so much i decided to get a reasonable sized force for the 2 other major factions at the time-allies and SSU (USSR/china) so i could field a bit of variety and teach others how to play the game.
First up-the SSU steel guards heavy infantry (mech suits) supported by light artillery, 2 artillery spotting teams and 7 medium combat engineer walkers-
The artillery and spotters-
The steel guards-command squad, fire support squad, anti-tank squad, anti-infantry squad, and a second anti-tank squad with blue tips standing in as a tesla squad that i ordered and was sent by mistake.
The combat engineer walkers, a mix of close combat weapons, short howitzers, and heavy flamethrowers.
the walkers being so cheap points wise the entire force clocks in at a comfortable 150 points( think of it like a 2k game of
40K on a 6X4 table) of heavy infantry horde goodness DUST style
Next up we have another themed force-
the ALLIES heavy ranger
TO&E. since the majority(70%) of my normal 150 point force is heavy rangers, on turn 1 of the game my infantry saves count as being in cover even if i am not.
i also picked up some
SAS scouts to mix and match for various gameplay options
The
SAS
The heavy rangers-command squad, assault squad ( i am actually using 3 "rhino" special characters for the squad as it was un-available when i was looking for it and the solos were super cheep), attack squad, and anti-tank squad-
The vehicles-
X2 bulldog heavy ranger destroyer class phaser walkers, a pelican tornado class phaser fighter, and a heavy command tank
The entire force-note the bulldogs actually are being piloted by characters. as i could not find the character solos i am using some loose dust minis as proxies until i can get ahold of the correct minis. as such i didn't bother painting them so they are not pictured.
Last but by far the largest force i have-
The AXIS- later in my collecting i started leaning towards a 150 point force themed around the laser special weapons. but i had already collected quite a few minis based purely on aesthetics. giving me a quite sizable air wing in the process.
The newly painted-
The bloody baron-air pilot character,
Gen Irwin Rommel (used as the panzer prince tank/walker pilot), heavy grenadier command, heavy grenadier support weapon recoiless rifle team X2, blutkreuz heavy grenadier support weapon laser team X2, blutkruez heavy grenadier laser team. and the jagdwotan laser heavy walker-
The complete force well in excess of 250 points of optional goodies-
It took the better part of 3 weeks to get all the new painting done, but at least now they are table ready without the shame of being un-painted
Additionally i also touched up about a dozen metal classic battletech minis that had gotten chipped and damaged over the years.
So that's my pile of shame gone......so lets see what you have done.
