So the new reveals are up and we saw some nice stuff. Szeras and the new made to order sisters model are homeruns. The other made to order model however....quite the opposite. Lexicanum varus, the derpy terminator librarian. Seriously, who at GW hq thought this was a good sculpt?! I know GW has never been very good with anatomy, especially with the older models (which admittedly is partly what gave them their nostalgic charme), but to release a model nowadays with proportions THAT derpy really ticks me off. I mean look at his head and his arms! His shoulders have to be at the height of his ears for gods sake.....
The thing that bothers me the most I think is that this mini could have been so cool, but the way they sculpted the torso and the placement of his arms in relations to it really hurts my eyes.

So don’t buy one?

We’ve also seen it, fully painted, in November last year so it’s not even news it’s a very ugly figure. It is terrible, but not worth starting threads or fretting over.

I think you did not quite understand my point. No, I won't buy that model, but what bothers me personally is that GW finally releases a good old terminator model and not primaris lieutenant nr76, and then they botch the sculpt that horrendously.

And on the other hand they made the Japanese sculpts and Space Hulk that are fab. It’s one bad, overpriced model that you don’t need. Don’t let it ruin your day.

let the guy start a thread if he wants, jeez.

It's a terrible model, and also really not needed. With all the models that need a plastic kit, did we need another Terminator Librarian? There is already a generic one, a Blood Angel one (which can also be made as Deathwatch) and the one from Space Hulk, which is easy to acquire. Would have much preferred a Chaplain since the other one is resin and the Limited Edition guy is either hard to find, or way overpriced when you do.
At least give him a different force weapon. We have stave and axe, why not go sword?

Anyway, it's quite annoying when you realize that they did nothing for Deathwatch (why not a new plastic kit for them?) and other armies are starved for HQs, but marines absolutely needed another terminator librarian with levitating arms.

Eh, I like the sculpt. Sure, I'd prefer other TDA sculpts (Terminator Ancient without needed Space Marine Heroes would be nice), but as what would have been a limited run and exclusive model, I'm not bothered.

All terminators have that problem, where their arms come out of the sides of their heads. Terminators in general are one of the worst models they make, IMO [not the worst, Centurions exist, among a few other things, but pretty bad]. Between aesthetic choices, like the squatting pose and the dog-head, and the whole hunch-backed arms-coming-out-of-side-of-head look they have...

Guardsmen, hear me! Cadia may lie in ruin, but her proud people do not! For each brother and sister who gave their lives to Him as martyrs, we will reap a vengeance fiftyfold! Cadia may be no more, but will never be forgotten; our foes shall tremble in fear at the name, for their doom shall come from the barrels of Cadian guns, fired by Cadian hands! Forward, for vengeance and retribution, in His name and the names of our fallen comrades!

Idk I actually quite like it for some reason. Yes the arms are just wrong but thats pretty standard for terminators

Tatar sauce ones have the problem of tyrannosaurus arms though. Especially with the LCs.

That's mostly because they all have power fists. I've converted mine to chainaxes, with normal hands. It helps. I prefer cataphractii though.

They all have that problem to some extent, but that new model is truly an extreme case of impossible anatomy. And here is the kicker for me: they could have used this opportunity to correct some of the issues of the older terminator models. Make the torso a bit bigger so that the head is not as far down as it is with this abomination....but no they even made it worse.
As much as I dislike some of the new primaris sculpts, they at least have nice proportions. Why could they have not done the same for the classic terminator if they go through the work of releasing a new one

I noticed this ages ago, shrugged, & haven't worried about it since.
I figure the dude is just inside a robot suit & only his head/face shows. His actual arms couldn't possibly be inside the arms of his suit I mean, it is called tactical dreadnought armor - so I figured smaller robot suit for living guys vs big robot suit for dead/mostly dead guy....
As for why the Imperium builds the stuff with such odd porportions/placements? (shrugs)

+1 for me.
I don't know if this is just nostalgia, but I thought terminator armour looked cool from the 2nd edition of Space Hulk, and I think it looks cool today. The impossible proportions don't bother me.

I always went a long with the idea that Terminator armor is not particularly comfortable to wear, and the user is pushed forward in the suit to make room for the power/infrastructure since they don't have a backpack. Normally the giant pauldrons sorta hide the explicit placement of the shoulders. Some sculpts work better than others. The plastics they came out with (available since 4th edition I think) are pretty disappointing. I like the new Chaos Terminators quite a bit.

I jacked the idea for my Malleus Inquisitor. I'd consider this model for about 15 dollars cheaper...

I don’t think it’s a terrible model, so much as an underwhelming one next to everything announced alongside it. Sad to say, Oldmarines do now look a bit... old.

What is wrong with it? I think it looks fine, fits in with the other terminators pretty well.

All the Terminators are bad models to be frank. They have bad proportions, bad anatomy, and if you think Primaris are limited in poses good luck making every single Terminator look different.

GK termintors have no problems with proportions and look great. At least my metal ones do.

Terminators in general are just bad. It's not that their shoulders are just as high as their heads, because that could be put down to excessively big pauldrons, it's that their shoulders are directly behind their heads. Anyone who fights in this for 5 minutes is going to have back problems the rest of their life.

Except the Primaris dudes do have different weapons so you're once again wrong on your bizarre tirade of Primaris-Hating Manlet-Marine-Loving.

GK terminators look a lot better, because their head comes out of the top, like a human. Also, they don't have dog heads.

On moon miranda.

My question is why GW insists on these characters never having helmets, and why the facial expressions they sculpt all project a sense of extreme gastric distress and painful constipation.

More to the point, we now have three plastic Terminator librarians, and they're all pretty objectively inferior sculpts (at a substantially higher price) next to older offerings. None of them have the detail or dynamism of guy, the last Metal termi librarian GW did (who was $20 when released in 2008, with inflation, that'd be ~$24 today, as opposed to the $31/35 GW charges for such a unit today).

The plastic ones all have much chunkier detail and bits, large flat unadorned surfaces, awkward modeling where undercuts can't be done in plastic (such as where Varus's tabard just kind of smears into his right leg, whereas this older metal dude has undercuts to make the tabard around his leg appear as a distinct object wrapping around the leg), less rivets, fewer adornments, stuff like hands on the plastic dudes are just cubes with fingers kinda scratched in where the older model has distinct individually sculpted fingers.

I still think the new csm terminators should have been heresy era patterns. Why would the older warriors have the newest marks of armour?

Legacy. Cataphract and Tartaros armor are more recent inventions narratively and model-ey, so in the heritage of the older models they use the "newer" armor.
