Dangerous Duet

Hi people ! So right now I only have 1 castellan and 2 helverins, but I'd like to expand my collection real soon. This bring the question : should I go loyalist or traitor ?
Considering they both will soon have an update in the Engine of War PA, I thought I'd ask to people with experience.
From what I gather, IK have more options right now when it comes to "chapter tactics". When it comes to stratagems and artefacts however, both seem equal (on paper at least). What is your opinion on this subject ?

I built my Knights modular to play as either/or (with the help of magnets, face plates, and tilt shields).
Imperial Knights are more reliable. Machine Spirit Resurgence in Mechanicus Knights is top tier. I also think most Mech Knight Household traits are useful. If theres an Admexh rusty 17 nearby, Knight of the Cog will give that knight a Canticle (i.e reroll ones, or +1 armor). I skip Questoris since I opted for no Aquilas on my Knights, but they have some decent strats too. Outflanking a Knight can be pretty good.
Chaos Knights have flexibility. You can list tailor with the different Vows and Dreadblade Pacts depending on opponent. 2cp reroll to hit strat is also great. Doubling down on weapons increases firepower and makes them more focused.
Edited to mention Cawls Wrath.
If you've got a Castellan, they're much better as IK. I have a Castellan/Tyrant also, and the Chaos version only gets buffed as Infernal (not my choice), while Cawls Wrath will let you stay "overcharged" with no risk.

One of the biggest issues with knights is neither codex's works standalone as it should competitively.
Choas seem to win the few battle reports I have seen that do head to head pure.
Also unfortunately castellens, loyal or Traitor are just expensive for their points, they can demolish other knights, but they tend to have too many sub optimal matchups.
Hence the most efficent way to run them is based on questorus class knight's.

Was wondering if someone could help me with something.
I'd really like to do a Chaos Knight army and was wondering what was better value for points between the Big Knights like the Tyrant, Rampager and Dispoiler or The Smaller Wardogs?
Basically I'm either going to get one each of the Big Boys kits and a couple Little ones or buy One or two big ones and lots of little ones. Which would be best?

I would pick a super heavy detachment (iconoclast) with 3x double thermal cannons despoilers and another super heavy detachment (infernal) with a close combat rampager and 2 wardogs (moirax if you allowed to take forgeworld). With the remaining points I got a few renegade heavy weapon teams with mortars and put them on the objectives.
Thermal cannons are the best value for points, in my opinion..

Thanks shogun I'm not keen on arming all my Dispoilers the exact same way, but totally understand why you're suggesting it. Is there a way I can have more variety in my weapon loadouts, without hampering my effectiveness to much?

Can't say for certain as they are different armies with different rules etc.
But my Imperial list has unfortunately been demoted to a similar but different list
4 questorus class and 2 armiger class.
But due to loadout restrictions and points inconsistencies like seriously GW what's going on here. I can't bring the level of firepower choas can in 1900 in a 2k list.

You want to get the most out of the relics, vows and stratagems. So I would get at least a double thermal cannon despoiler and/or a double rapid fire battle cannon despoiler. Knights struggle with bad deployment setups. Being deployed far away, ruins in the way or scouts and teleporting orks being put in front of them and forces them to stay in place for a turn. You either win big or lose big. I brought a chaos knight list at a tournament and I took down 2 other knight list easily (first turn with 6 thermal cannons), shot down a fun chaos list with mortarion and magnus but then got killed against ad mech and 2 space marine lists.
Next time I would rather pick 3 shooty knights and add some chaos space marines and/or daemons (bloodletterbomb) for flexibility.

Hey guys, have a question here for ya. Didn't want to dig up the old chaos knights tactics thread and necropost...
I've been away from 40k for over a year playing AoS and I'd like to bring my Nurgle daemons army back over to 40k and pair them with a knight detachment. (Mostly because I need guns and I want to paint knights)
Any advice on what kind of knight detachment to add? Tyrant and war dogs with a bunch of Plaguebearers?

I'm partial to a double-gatling Despoiler.
That being said, a big thing Nurgle Daemons lack is AP. You can have butt-tons of reasonably wounding AP0 attacks, but you sorely lack for dealing with good armor. Think about how to make that work with your Knight(s).
