Let's say Angron lands on a different planet. So no Butcher's Nails stuff. Sort of like Macragge and gets loving parents who desire to get Angron to achieve his dreams and goals and Angron gets access to good education, etc...

Is there any hint what Angron could have turned out like?

GW:"Space marines got too many options to balance, therefore we decided to legends HH units."
Players: "why?!? Now we finally got decent plastic kits and you cut them?"
Chaos marines players: "Since when are Daemonengines 30k models and why do i have NO droppods now?"
GW" MONEY.... erm i meant TOO MANY OPTIONS (to resell your army to you again by disalowing former units)! Do you want specific tyranid fighiting Primaris? Even a new sabotage lieutnant!"
Chaos players: Guess i stop playing or go to HH.

Supposedly he had abilities to calm people around him, help them feel peaceful, and even heal minor wounds by touch. He would have been the kindest and most charitable of the Primarchs. Instead he was turned into a rage monster full of nothing but destruction. The butchers nails did a complete 180 on who he was into who he is.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Yup, he was intended to be the most empathic of the Primarchs which makes what was done to him even more tragic.

The World Eaters would never be what they ended up to be, since they would no longer have a reason or even access to the Butcher's Nails, not even getting their current moniker given that Angron would likely rose to be quite the leader of men in his planet/system. They likely would have kept the War Hounds name or something that would tie in more with Angron's new persona. Angron would probably be big buddies with Vulkan and the Salamanders given their own penchance for empathy towards the general masses of humanity, and depending on his initial meeting with the Emperor, stayed loyalist in the changed setting of the upcoming Heresy.

To my mind, Angron was one of the most vital primarchs the Ruinous Powers needed to neutralize. I think they'd have been willing to let other primarchs go if they'd needed to in order to focus enough energies to make sure Angron didn't remain loyal, or even sane.

If Angron was supposed to represent the Emperor's empathy and mercy, then he would have been the one who supported his brothers when no one else did. He would have been the one that saw when things were going wrong (when one of his brothers was feeling isolated, or useless, or abandoned). His abilities would have seen him act as a support system for his brothers, and potentially prevented one or more of them from falling to Chaos as well.

He would have been calmer.

Probably would have just called himself Ron.
