Starting the FSE and my local gaming store had the Rapid Insertion Cadre box for sale at 20% off, this week only.

How useful is this for Farsight?
They are currently sold out of the Start Collecting box.

Just curious if the battleforce box is worth it for starting FSE?

Personal preference but, I'd have to say it depends, as your really talking 2-3 start collecting boxes for Tau as they need atleast 1 battalion, though it depends exactly which FSE list style your going for.

Is it smaller suit heavy list of crisis bomb, commander spam and stealth in which case it has value if you can get it at a decent price.

Or are you going for the older Triptide list

Or a hybrid of the two?

Good question, not sure. It has been a really long time since I played so I am starting all over.
Kind of want a good starting point and saw they had the battleforce box at a discount.

If you are doing FSEc then assuming you want 6 commanders, a ton of crisis, and not necessarily riptides. Stealth suits and ghostkeels can play a pretty good role in that type of list (screening for characters), so I say go for it, seems like a good box.

Optimally, what battleforce box is better suited for FSE? Or, I should maybe say what ones do FSE get the most out of?

I'll give you my hot take

Commander= Money you take 3 or more in almost every list often 2 coldstars

Stealth teams good -1 to hit isn't enough durability IMHO but they can do work and can give early board control.

Crisis suits Need FSE and Strategums thrown at them to make them pay off but they can deepstrike and bring the rain. (Also come in Start collecting)

Ghostkeel personally too many points and not enough firepower given it dies fast as( again -1 to hit is junk in the modern meta) some people see it as worthwhile for the 12 inch no deepstrike system (I would say its not and It annoys me as I loved them in older editions)

I will start this off by saying thanks for the guidance.

I will also say I ended up with the Starclaimer Hunter Cadre.

The reason why I choose that? Because they accidentally put the wrong Battleforce box on their website. Totally cool with this because I had actually considered this one instead.

Well, you just want to think about the core units you need a good amount of. FSE wants:

-Commanders
-Breachers
-Crisis Suits
-Drones, though not as many as traditional 3 Riptide needs

So for example, the start collecting box is pretty good but you're not allowed to use the ethereal. The good thing is that a lot of Tau boxes come with Crisis Suits. None of them are going to be perfect though, because they have some units you won't want. You want a lot of infantry to screen for your commanders, so you might want to consider getting like 3 start collecting boxes and then flipping the ethereals on Ebay. It's the only way to get an Ethereal on disc so you can actually get good value.

If you do that you'll have 9 crisis, which is plenty. The expensive part will be 6 commanders which you absolutely want. They're just so good and the main reason to play Farsight is to be allowed to have 6 of them, well that and the veteran crisis suit strat.

I agree with the poster above that Stealth Suits and Ghostkeels aren't A1 competitive but they're definitely playable in a FSE shell and not bad at all.
