Notice: I have already done this topic prior, and included a poll, the purpose of the previous topic was for use in a college assignment, it seems in my doing so that I accidentally left a joke answer in the poll, rendering it ineligible for use in my assignment. I will copy/paste the body paragraph from the last topic here, also the premise has changed somewhat from a standard animated show to an animated short movie, that could lead into a show, much like Star Wars the Clone Wars. I was thinking that it would be really cool to have an animated TV show based on the Horus Heresy Novels, like animated in the sense of Astartes or The Lord Inquisitor if you've followed those, not like Star wars the Clone Wars or Rebels. I also think Henry Cavill could play Horus Lupercal, with like a mocap of his face. Opinions?

EDIT: To be more specific, it would be an adaptation of Horus Rising, as a potential short or feature length film, to then potentially lead into a series, as films tend to be limited on the amount of time a story has to get across, some edits made for the sake of brevity might have to be made, however with a show, more time would be allowed to get all of the glorious grimdark in there, also keep in mind that this won't be kids show, seeing as it would be heresy to have 30k/40k without that f*cked horror they call reality. We're talking some Game of Thrones level of not for kids, although Game of thrones was still watched by kids and 30k/40k is extremely more messed up then George R.R. Martin.
EDIT 2: Also keep in mind that an official animated series is already underway from the creators of the Helsreach fan project and writers from the Black Library, as well as a potential Amazon live action series based upon the Eisenhorn Trilogy. So don't expect something like this to seriously happen anytime soon.

Sure, a well-done CGI Warhammer 40K movie I think would be a no-brainer, whether set in the Horus Heresy or more modern times like Astartes. Personally, I would prefer a series less epic than the Horus Heresy - something following a small band of marines or some form of Kill Team in their adventures through the 40K universe, facing divergent variety of foes, instead of just Chaos all the time.

The big caveat is "well-made", which will differ from person to person.

I can agree to that, a series perhaps on the Deathwatch and an Inquisitor fighting aliens and whatnot. Maybe for the future.

In short, no, for the simple reason that they will male hen it up.

It won't be remotely lore accurate, it will almost certainly be given the same treatment as the Wheel of Time series.

If you want good 40k media, throw money at the passionate one man operations like Astartes or Death of Hope, with no strings attached.

or at least give them some general stuff and let them do their own thing, there is no way a horus heresy series would turn out as anything but bad

Yes, I think a 40k animated show/movie would be great. That said, I don't think Horus Heresy would be a good venue for it, especially if the end goal is to have a show like "The Clone Wars". A Rogue Trader or Inquisitor would be a better choice, since it permits a more diverse range of stories and a story-of-the-week structure, with some longer ones and some shorter ones.

As for the horror of reality, I don't think it's neccessary. Horror is really a secondary part of it, that you can really only see if you want to engage with it and go looking for it. You don't even have to actively avoid it to not have horror in your 40k, it's small and just there so that it exists if it's something you're seeking. The Grim Darkness comes from the morality, the fascism and theocracy, the blatant disregard for human life, the totalitarianism and oppression, and the state of forever war and destruction.

I'd love to see a warhammer TV show...just not anything I know GW will actually make.

What I'd love to see is a Black Mirror/Outer Limits/LoveDeath&Robots style cerebral adventure, episodic, often with sad or disturbing or just unexplained endings, exploring what it means to be a truly self-fulfilled Ork and at home among a galaxy at war, the plight of a Hab worker caught in an uprising who can neither seek safety with the Imperial authorities (who see nobody as innocent) yet rightfully terrified and on the run from cultists and just at the last moment accepts the gifts of chaos and a brief glimpse of immense power is witnessed, the last hour of life of an Aspect Warrior in the face of the Great Enemy, the tortured yet wholly willing existence of a Traitor Legionnaire who has known nothing but hatred and vengeance for literal millennia and gladly sacrificed their sanity in barter with the powers of Chaos to empower their pursuit of revenge against the Corpse Emperor, the crushing weight of the reality of endless war on a Guard trooper who has just come through a grueling years long campaign with billions dead only to be immediately shipped out to another war just as terrible and knowing it will never end, or following a slice of the Doom Rider's existence as he bikes through the varied realms of reality and unreality doing as he pleases and the weirdness that entails.

What we'll actually probably get is a lot of screaming "for the emperor!" with hammers being tossed about and gobs of automatic bolter fire with moustache-twirling cardboard cutout villains, pulp gunfire porn at its finest.

Animatrix style Compilation would be nice too

Origin stories are only cool if everyone understands the present, so I’ll repeat what I said in the other thread that I want massive amounts of 40K TV before we see anything related to 30k.

I feel I should specify that it wouldn't be "like" the Clone Wars, I used that as an example as an animated series that started as a movie, shortly afterwards becoming an actual series. I wasn't thinking like a twenty minute Saturday morning cartoon, more like lengthy episodes with more than a week in between releases or so. If you get my meaning.

I think I'd want a 40k TV program to be like The Clone Wars. Episodes as self contained short stories collated into short arcs of 4-5 related episodes covering the same event with a number of intervening independent episodes, released weekly.
