Okay, so with Black Reach being hard to get hold of and that minibox Battle for Vedros being pretty scarce too does anyone have any suggestions on good ways to make some Ork Deffkoptas as they're fairly good now and have always been a wonderful looking unit. I've got 3 but would like to have a larger air brigade.

"If you build it, use a Trukk."

They're really the one-stop shop for all things Ork. Even come with a Big Shoota for you!

Kinda thinking a Warbiker may be a better base. Cheaper and roughly the right size. A truck would likely be better for the much larger WarKopter.

Logically, Bikers, but not sure about the Trukk. Could be me, but can’t visualise which parts from the Trukk could not be sourced cheaper elsewhere. Big Shoota? Boyz box.

I have scratch built Koptas, but my army is RT vintage, so they won’t help. I would look at Fox Box for odd bitz, but use Shootas to replace the bike front wheel, sprue to form skids/drive shaft and spears for the tail assembly. Top Tip, flatten lengths of sprue with a hammer for Kopta blades.

AOBR koptas still appear regularly on ebay, other wise, you could try the usual ork unit modelers, like kromlech.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe.

Thr trick is turning one Trukk into three or four Dethkoptas, similar to how you canturn one into three Mek Guns.

Cut the chassis into two parts, then use the boarding ramps for a third (or fourth) Kopta base, plucking parts like a madman. You probably need to hit up the Bits Box as well, but, the Trukk is *so* dang versatile.

A common (but not particularly cheap) conversion is throwing Ork Warbikers and Necron Tomb Blades together - I'll see if I've got any photos to hand...

Please tell me shorty why Deffkoptas got better these days.
Sorry, in our gaming groups players hardly play Orks.

Basically because they dropped in points to an acceptable level and they synergize well with buggy lists which have become more powerful through SotB.

Ugh, I'd rather be Rick-rolled. Hard to believe that ungodly thing is still in metal, and that plastic Deffkoptas were never done as a kit.

It never ends well

Oh my goodness. This thing is still in metal.
This would not have happened if it had been a marine model.

Each Speed Freaks box comes with six warbikers. There should be plenty of them floating around the secondhand market. Or you can even possibly pick up the whole box on sale; the two buggies that come in it are pretty good. The deffkopta is basically a bike with helicopter blades; it's very easy to convert. Especially if you have some rocket, jetpack, or turbine style bits lying around.

I'm amused with how, before 8th, people were hunting down plastic deffkoptas to turn them into (Nob) bikers. Now we turn bikers into koptas. It's the orky Circle o' Loot.
