UK Government fast-tracked a change to the law which was due to come into effect in December - the result is that ebooks no longer have UK VAT (20%) added to them

this is a good law and other countries with a VAT/GST etc should follow suit. anything that enchourages people to read (and thus educate themselves) is a good idea

Sounds good to me,

Now we wait to see if it's passed on to consumers or if it's just kept as extra profit (amazon seems to be passing it on, the newspapers not so much)

I wonder, were newspapers charging more for e-copies over print or were they taking the 20% hit themselves for digital copies and keeping digital and print in the same price bracket. Keeping in mind that they might have operated differently, some pricing different and others taking the 20% hit to keep prices the same.
