A quick overview, been involved in the hobby on and off for the last 20 years, recently ordered a photography lighting setup, some backdrops, and various terrain pieces to try taking some more interesting/energized pics rather than the usual standard presentation you see, and figured a blog would be perfect for sharing in the adventure.

For now all the equipment is set to be delivered over the next couple weeks starting tomorrow, and I'm left to finish the small collection of random minis I bought for cheap last year off eBay, most of which will probably wind up back on eBay.

Alright, a few things have trickled in and I figure it's enough to post some pics. First up is the lighting set, then some junky backdrops, followed by a small update on painting.

Four light and two backdrop stands.

I got two of the silver boxes, two white umbrellas, four lights and four bulbs.

It came with three 5'x10' cloth backdrops in black, white, and green.

And finally a 77"x77" backdrop frame, five clips, two white liners for the silver boxes, and a carrying case.

I also ordered three backdrops that I thought were interesting, but after unwrapping and checking them out a little more closely, I've decided to return them. The colors are already scratching off where they were folded, I don't like the material, and I don't want to compromise my return eligibility by trying to flatten them out or anything. They were the cheapest I could find for the size I wanted, and now I'm thinking it might be fun to try making my own.

And now for some minis, not much but just some quick WIPs. I've got Legion of Nagash and Nighthaunt armies, the start collecting Drukhari, and handful of random characters I want to finish quickly so I can get started on a small Craftworld Wraith army I've still got on the sprue.

So the plan is to finish the Legion then Nighthaunt armies pronto, then the characters and Drukhari before getting into the aforementioned Wraith army. Since I'm just trying to get rid of what I have now, I don't care too much about getting any pics of them beyond what I plan on using to sell them. Everything is unsurprisingly being delayed with the current events of the world, so maybe I can fill the extra time waiting by figuring out how to make some backdrops.

Well, I finished the Legions of Nagash, the Sloppity Bilepiper, and the Mortisan Soulmason. I'm not too worried about the technical side of anything for now, mostly just figuring out a set up that works and looks nice. Despite not wanting to just use a plain black or white backdrop, I was able to return the others and went ahead with the white anyway. Once all the lights and minis were set up, taking pics was easier than it's ever been before. I took my first pictures of miniatures about 15 years ago, and I think it goes without saying but I'll say it anyway, but taking nice pics of minis can be a pain! Suddenly it's a lot of fun and I can feel my interest in the hobby revitalizing.

These pics have been resized for the forum, so the originals are much clearer. Once I start taking better, more involved pics I might start linking to the larger sizes. I'm just using a Google Pixel 3a XL, so no nice fancy digital camera for now.

Next step is throwing all that up on eBay and plugging through a Nighthaunt army and a couple more characters. Once the rust has really been kinda shaken off, I'll be putting a bit more attention into my Drukhari and Craftworld Wraith armies.
