With painting, as with many things, practice makes perfect.

Painting is a big part of the hobby, so if painting isn’t for you do you really want to invest a significant amount of money in just playing the game?

One option, other than getting someone to paint a load of new models for you, is to buy second hand painted models, or even entire armies. eBay has a lot constantly on sale, forumd like this one also have people selling second hand models. Facebook is also a good source.

If you really want someone to commission paint for you there is a thread in the Dakka Swap Shop sub forum where people advertise their services.

Hi,

Welcome to Dakka

Welcome to Dakka!

As far as painting goes, it is apart of the hobby. If there was no need to paint and assemble the minis, it would just be a game and not a hobby. Always remember though that this is your hobby and you can invest as much or as little in it as you want.

There are alot of people who do commission work. You can search the web or even on Fiverr to find someone. A YouTuber named Squidmar did a video where he had various miniature painters on Fiverr paint a figure to various degrees of skill and cost for a reference. Most people that do commission work have various levels of paint jobs and will give examples to give you an idea of what you are paying for. Please be up front when people compliment your miniatures that you did not paint them and give credit to the person who did. You would be surprised how many people attempt to pass commission work off as their own.

If you do decide that you want to paint your miniatures, head to a FLGS or a GW for a painting lesson. The GW painting lessons are designed to get armies painted fast. If you learn how to drybrush, you can create some good looking armies in a hurry. They will not win any awards, but the rough, dusty appearance looks fine on the tabletop in the 41st millennium. No one is happy with their first miniature, but save it because you'll be amazed at how quickly your skills improve.

Again, welcome to the hobby! You're going to have a great time with it.

Welcome to world of legal drugs. Well not really but it is going to cost you about the same anyways.

I understand your point of view totally. For me personally as well, I enjoy the game, lore, assembling etc, basically i enjoy everything except painting the miniatures myself. Why? because I can never paint to the level of my expectations. So I resorted to getting my stuff commissioned instead.

Despite the stigma of what people say about not painting your own army, remember it is your hobby. Maybe you are one of those who earn more per hour at work and cannot afford the time to pick up the skills to paint but have enough spare cash lying around.

Whatever it may be, I suggest to source close to you first. I usually stick to the same 1 or 2 painters to keep things consistent. They are now both my friends and sometimes we even discuss other topics besides painting. Anyway, wish you all the best in your hobby road ahead

Firstly, welcome to the hobby.

In regards to painting, it’s really not uncommon for people to dislike it.
I’ve grown to love it over the years but I never did when I started out.

If you plan on having your stuff painted for you, try locally first.
A lot of commission based companies really aren’t cheap, especially for armies.
Buying painted from eBay is also an option, but makes it tricky to expand an army that’s been painted already.

Most areas have local painters though that won’t charge the Earth.

My main advice though is get into the game first.
Get a few games, see how you like it.
It’s an expensive road no matter how you walk it, so be sure before you commit to it fully.
