Subject: Traitor Legion upgrades and special characters
Hey all!
What are the chances GW would put out specialty upgrade bitz and a unique captain model for the Traitor Legions like we have for the primaris chapters?
Presumably the big four would not need these upgrades as they will all have their own codexes and model lines, dark gods willing.
It would be a great way to give the new chaos marine models some character. I’m thinking something like 10 pads for marines, 5 pads for terminators. 6 legion specific heads and four legion specific weapons. Maybe a banner or icon. A nice touch would be a terminator pad and head that would fit the still respectful chaos terminator lord model.
As far as the legion specific Lord goes I’m a bit torn. I like the “special character” models that can easily be used as a line captain or lord. BUT it might be interesting to use something with more character, a Word Bearers Arch Apostle or Iron Warrior Warsmith. They’d have to come up with characterful captains for the rest of the legions...it’s probably best keeping it simple and and a bit in line with their primaris counterparts.
The thunder hammer chaos lord will work perfect for the BL lord.
What would be some good set ups for the rest of the traitor legion commanders?

In reality, they would've used Strats to just do it, like with Loyalists getting the special treatment of a Death Company Captain or Dark Angels + Space Wolves Duelist dudes, or the fact you get generic upgrades in general for a single CP.
World Eaters get a stupid limited one just for Terminator Characters (you can Red Butcher your Terminator Lord!) and that's it. Word Bearers have to waste a whole Warlord Trait to get a Possessed Lord or Iron Warriors using a precious Relic Slot to get kinda near Obliterator stats.

Or Night Lords getting "A Talent For Murder" but split between a warlord trait and a stratagem.
Huzzah!

Well remember that we are trying to make the stereotype of the Legion. A Raptor Lord would simply inflict a further debuff upon LD and maybe have the one rule that Jackal Scions have to make each casualty count as 2 for morale purposes.

GW used to have such. There was an Iron Warriors Warsmith model for example and an Iron Warriors boxed set of basic CSM's with a unique Lascannon and Meltagun and a couple unique torso and head bits, there were Legion specific shoulderpads, etc.
That was however back in the mid days of 3E, and largely GW appears to have ceased any interest in such since then.
IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT.
New Heavy Gear Log! Also...Grey Knights! The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.

That's only at 8th edition thing. Remember in previous editions Night Lords were the sneaky legion, with the Stealth Adept veteran talent in 3.5 and stealth in Traitor Legions. In HH the dirty fighter aspect is pushed with a talent for murder. I think gw may be moving past the leadership aspect, as only one strategem and one relic focused on that in Faith and Fury.

Although I think it could be done in one book like it was in 3.5 why wouldn't supplements work for the legions as well as it did for the loyalists?

EC and WE should get an update at some point, but I don't have any Hope's on the other Legions.
FWHH upgrades are your best bet.
Technically, there's already a few uniques and some generic legion-specifics. BL, DG, and TSons have them, and EC is getting one. We might see Kharn redone for the WE some day, eventually
I don't think we're going to see them for the other 4 though.

I hate the little molded shoulder pads, at least as Space Wolves. I prefer blank pads to do my own markings, because the molded pads are a mix of all the company symbols. I wish the upgrade sprues would focus less on molded-on markings and more on having upgrade bits like chainswords, thunder hammers, power fists, helmetless heads, decorative trinkets, etc. Maybe like "10x Legion Specific Helmets, 10x Legion Specific unhelmeted heads, 10x pieces of legion specific decorative special-issue wargear [maybe chain-bayonets for the WE, scopes for the AL, E-Tools and bangalores for the IW], 2x Legion-iconic sergeant melee weapon, 2x Legion-iconic special/heavy weapon.
Anyway, I think an Alpha Legion chaos lord who isn't a space marine would be pretty cool. The Alpha Legion already canonically has cultists sometimes lead cells and task groups, and it would be pretty cool and uniquely Alpha Legion to have a unaugmented human AL officer.

Guardsmen, hear me! Cadia may lie in ruin, but her proud people do not! For each brother and sister who gave their lives to Him as martyrs, we will reap a vengeance fiftyfold! Cadia may be no more, but will never be forgotten; our foes shall tremble in fear at the name, for their doom shall come from the barrels of Cadian guns, fired by Cadian hands! Forward, for vengeance and retribution, in His name and the names of our fallen comrades!

To be fair if you saw my attempt at rebalancing the Legion traits I gave them part of a trait showing them off as dirty fighters.

Yes, and I liked it. Now just convince gw to implement something like it.
Now to the OP'S question.
Night Lords captain: standard chaos lord with jump pack stat line (yeah I know it's cliche, but we all know characters without mobility are useless): m12, ws2+, bs2+, s4, t4, w5, a4, ld9, sv3+.
Wargear: plasma pistol, nostroman chainglaive s+1, ap-2, d2, any wound roll of 6 made with this weapon increases the AP of those particular wounds to ap-4.
Special abilities: all the usual chaos lord abilities, 4++, reroll 1s to hit etc, PLUS:
Master of the Atrementar: any NIGHT LORDS LEGION TERMINATORS deep striking within 9 of this model may be set up anywhere on the battlefield that is more than 6 away from enemy models.
