Hello everyone, I'm upgrading my painting area to something that will help me organize my painting and building of miniatures. I have a good 5'6" of room for it, though I can probably make a bit more space. Does anyone know of good desk for hobbying? I live in the states and would prefer something I can have shipped to me, or to Walmart, Home Depot, or Lowes for pickup. I need a sturdy table top with drawers and the ability to mount one of those light/magnifying glass things mounted on an arm. I'm not worried about table top storage right now (like paint racks and shelves, just the desk for right now) Any recommendations?

My desk is from Harbor Freight. Was a gift, so not sure on the details. One big drawback is the lower shelf keeps me from pulling a chair under it. Besides that, I’m quite happy with it. Pegboard backer is nice, built in light under the top shelf. Pretty sturdy.

Thanks for the suggestions but I was looking for something a bit wider, something that won't interfere with my chair, and something without a peg board. The back of the desk will have a TV. I guess a computer desk with shelves on top of it will work, too. Just something with a lot of room and storage, really.

Did the pegboard come with it?

Yes.

Had to buy the pegs, hooks, etc separate, but the board came with.

Also has a little 3 outlet power strip in the side, although the top light plugs into one of the spots (unless you plug it in elsewhere or rewire the thing)

i have a 2nd hand writing bureau.
here's an example of one from google:

As it's 2nd hand, i don't mind if i scratch it, spill paint on etc plus you can flip up the table top to make it look tidy.

Check out my gallery here
Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!

Suggestion ... Head to furniture stores and, then, IKEA. Look at their used desks. These would be items that were on display for a period of time and could have a scratch or dent or whatever. You should be able to find something. If I remember, I will send a pic of mine once I get home.

I looked at proper desks. Then, I happened to go to IKEA. Found a formerly $250 table for $40. Turned it into a painting table with a few additions that were inexpensive.

Given you are in FTW / Great State of Texas ... I am in ATX ... some retailers are open. You may be able to get out and look vs buying new.
