I understand the interaction between genestealer cults lying in wait and Omni-scramblers, but this one is worded differently.

Lying in wait says set up on the battlefield anywhere more than 3” away from enemies.

Scrambled coordinates says “that unit must be set up more than 12” away, rather than 9””.

So does scrambled coordinates even apply?

Lying in wait is used in deployment, and Scrambled Coordinatesis used in your opponent’s Movement phase.

So they do not interact with each other at all since they are not used at the same time.

Lying in wait says when they are set up underground, which is during turns.

Unfortunately it applies instead of more than 9 inches you get to setup more than 3 inches.

For scrambled coordinates you then get pushed out to 12 inches. Same as Omni scramblers.....

Umm. Lying in wait says "Use this stratagem when you set up a unit from your army that has the cult ambush ability as reinforcements." So it does not say anything about underground.

However, if you are able to use lying in wait during the movement phase, you need to abide by all restrictions. So you abide by the restrictions given in scrambled coordinates as well as Lying in wait.

Basically we should strive to break no rule (Unless a rule specifically counters another like Tau firing overwatch).

Then this may be another case of the enhanced codex not matching. Mine says
“Use the stratagem when you set up a unit from your army as reinforcements that has the Cult Ambush ability and that was set up underground.”
Just checked, that’s the wording on the faq as well.

Ok so I shouldn’t worry that it says “rather than 9””. Cool, thanks.

You should know by now that rules change with FAQs. Check the GSC Codex FAQs for the updated stratagem. It does say underground, crackedgear is right.

Of course I know FAQ's can change rules.

If they were easily searchable it would not be an issue. But in GW's jury-rigged system no one can find anything quickly, sometimes not at all.

I would love to see a faq where all the questions are “why aren’t you digital yet?”

Because physical books are faster to flip through. I can usually find the correct page every time in less than 1/2 a second.

Can't do that with the digital books.

You may be able to do that, but thats no good when your book is outdated, which sometimes even happens before its released.

Exactly this. Finding a rule in 1/2 a second doesn’t help much if you don’t even know if it’s still true.

Of course it is still true...

The books may have FAQ's that change things, but if your opponent and you are playing a game and you do not have the FAQ's handy, then the books are the true rules.

Cool, next time i will play IH pre nerf and just tell my opponent that i dont have FAQs handy, so they dont apply. I can still repair a unit multiple times, and get to use that unkillable levi dread
