Hey folks!

I heard that during the 3rd Ed global campaign for Armageddon specific scenarios were written and put into the White Dwarf's at the time - unfortunately I don't have white dwarfs of this period and finding scans online has become a bit of a hassle. Does anyone know where I could find them or perhaps what issues they showed up in? Maybe a range of issues that had the global campaign content?

Many thanks!

WD 247 and 248 in the US were the ones with a massive battle report center around Warzone Tempestor. I think there were 3 or 4 battles going on at the same time. I remember a big main battle between Yarrick and Ghazghkull, a space hulk battle with Black Templars and another battle with White Scars vs Speed Freeks.

247 front cover is the Codex: Armegeddon Cover Art
248 front cover is a Catachan

It looks like Amazon still has them for sale if you want to pay about $16/each

You can also use the wayback machine to view the old website for the global campaign. armageddon3.com

Hope that helps!

What is the terror of death?
That we die our work incomplete.
What is the joy of life?
To die knowing our task is done.

Even more amusing was the uproar over GW back-tracking on their promise that lore would follow the results...and how broken the scoring/reporting systems were, etc. The entire worldwide campaign was more or less a sham.

It had a massive in-game battle with the results of 3-4 other tables effecting the main event. One determined orbital bombardment, one was artillery that could affect the main table, another was an attempt to stop reinforcements from reaching the main event.

Worldwide, Imperial forces were more numerous but the chaos and non-imperials were more organized and won more often. Sadly, GW reneged on their promise to change the newer lore to reflect the results.

That was the eye of Terror Campaign. The chaos players were more organised and the Imperials just wanted to do their own things. Armageddon 3 each player could only enter results for the area they lived in. For example all NZ results counted for Phoenix Island. Each location had sublocations you could choose your result to count towards. That added variety but was more limited than the Eye of Terror campaign.

Of course the biggest issue for these campaigns, beside faction organising, is false results. In the Armageddon 3 campaign the limit was 5 battles reported per day. You had to state who (actual player and faction) the battle was against. That was easily cheated. Make up a persons name or two and post 5 win results against them daily.

Players can stuff up any campaign. So an important setting affecting campaign it is best for players not to be involved in deciding the result.

Nowadays, that could be remedied by having every participant create an account verified by SMS. Sure, some people could cheat by grabbing some extra SIM cards, but anyone willing to go to that length deserves to win.

Also, to be fair to Games Workshop, they did eventually publish the result of the Eye of Terror campaign eventually, albeit 14 years late.
