Looking at making a first list as a basis kind of using what I have. We are pretty casual and there will be no Lord's of war. Any advice?

Looks fairly straightforward for a Tau list. All I'd recommend is switching the sept choice, farsight enclave does nothing for this list at all. You'd be better with the tau sept.
