I know COVID has probably put a hold on these, but I was wondering if anyone knew of regular 40k groups near the city? Even before COVID I was having trouble finding a good one.
Explored these options:
- Compleat Strategist in Fall's church. Great area but very small and no regular group.
- Labyrinth Games doesn't carry it
- Reiters books has a regular club. I went there a couple times, great guys but its a small store with limited tables. Its a book store, not a hobby store so you can only play there on saturday and have to reserve tables in advance.
- Huzzah in Ashburn, great store, great group. But its 45 - 60 minute drive and looking for something closer for weekly trips.
- Games Workshop in Springfield. Reached out to them before COVID but no response. Will try again after this ends
Looking for a group that meets regularly but with the option to play on random days because I don't have a normal schedule

He's been ferried through hell on a ship that's ten thousand years old to some godforsaken, war-torn rock; He is one of ten million men snatched from his home to fight a war he barely understands; He wages war against devouring hiveminds, ravenous demons and hordes of hyper-advanced aliens with strange technologies and sorceries he never dreamed existed; no one will remember his sacrifice, there will be no records of his deeds, no glorious parades in his honor, and no remembrance of his name. All he will earn is a shallow, unmarked grave on a forgotten world untold lightyears from home.
Yet for all this thankless sacrifice a Guardsman is a man, just like you. He has no millennia-old genetic engineering, no prophetic leader, no miracles of faith. He has his lasgun, his orders, and those beside him. He is the Imperial Guard.
And he will hold the line.

The Reiter's group actually began playing smaller games (1,000 points) on Friday evenings. That's been good for me, partially since I can be a little indecisive, but mostly because I usually work on Saturdays. I can't wait to get back there; I was finally having some luck!

I usually game at Huzzah, great people, great space, great management. Sucks about that drive though.

Not sure how active it still is, but you could check out Victory Comics in Falls Church.

Agreed, Huzzah is amazing. Great staff, tons of inventory and table space. Rarely have to worry about competing with card players or even other wargamers for space. Definitely a good backup, just a little far for a weekly drive.
There was a pdf on that site that references strategems and command points so at least since 8th. Sent them a facebook message, thanks!

Hey, I'm not too far from you and have done some of this searching myself. The GW in Springfield also plays 40K pretty actively; that's where I've done most of my gaming to date, but I've been looking for alternatives.
From what I've gathered, Victory Gamers is an active group, and pre-lockdown they had an arrangement with The Board Room in Arlington to play 40K on their tables on certain days. So, if The Board Room resumes normal operations when things settle down, that might be a bit closer for you than Falls Church.
Whatever you find, when things get a bit back to normal feel free to shoot me a message if you'd like to arrange a game.

The Board Room in Arlington
I have been to the Board Room in Dupont, but I didn't know that there was one in Arlington. Neat.

The only other option that I can think of is Dream Wizards in Rockville, MD (it's about 1 mile? from the White Flint station off the Red Line), and their minis Game Nights are on Wednesdays. I think depending on the schedule and if you call ahead, you can get some table space on the weekends. Depending on where you're at in the District, it could be a relatively painless drive or also a ~30-45m drive, traffic depending).
Didn't know about Board Room, but that's a good one to know (and like, a 10m drive for me).

Yeah definitely check Victory Comics, just down the road from Compleat Strategist.
NOVA has lost 2 good places in recent years both out in Chantilly, Game Tavern and Game Parlor

Game Tavern didn't went out? Sorry to hear that, even if their selection didn't have the best match with what I was looking for. I know my ex-roommate is still sad about Game Parlor.

I live in the DC area (Springfield to be exact), and was wondering if there were still any gaming groups going on in this area, formal or informal, where masks and social distancing are used (I'm immune suppressed).

Just across the occoquan river is a place called guild gamers, which has a lot of players in and out though I am not sure of their formal schedule. Its worth asking though -- the store is very decent for play and a lot of semi to fairly competitive players meet there for games as well. They require masks, I believe.
Its on old bridge road, I think? the first left after corssing the river and leaving 95 on 123.
irony of ironies, they moved the store into potomac mills mall, apparently in the last month.
Also, if you are immune suppressed, it might not be a bad idea to look into tabletop simulation version of 40k for a while, as one expects a vaccine sometime later this year and after vaccine use, the herd immunity to covid should greatly raise safety margins in stores.

If you don't mind a 45 minute trip ( it goes fast) there is Games N Stuff in Glen Burnie/Ferndale, just south of Baltimore.
Many old GW staffers still play and shop there. I don't know if they have a group or not, but they have a huge gaming area and you should be able to find people. Call them up.

.Only a fool believes there is such a thing as price gouging. Things have value determined by the creator or merchant. If you don't agree with that value, you are free not to purchase. |

+1 for E&E! There is a solid 40k group there. They do a lot of their coordination via FB these days:
