I have seen pictures of GW kits that’s are not your usual grey, blue for ultramarines etc. Is this supposed to replace or improve your base? Or is it a gimmick. To me it looks like it’s harder to pick out the detail on the model so I’d probably still prime it

Yeah it's something they do primarily in their boxed games. Make sense for the push-fit minis I guess, since you can clip, push-fit together, and play the game with different colour factions right off the bat.

in terms of painting though, as already said, it doesn't change anything.

I have a blue SM biker, got it as a sprue but I think it's from Revel kit
