The Wastes of Krieg

So with the imminent price increase right around the corner, I’m trying to finalize a list so I can order what I need and save some money. The idea is to start the game with nearly all of the army embarked or in reserve. My first turn has the Valks and Vendetta moving forward and dropping the Bullgryns with the Psykers and priests to prepare to get into melee. The transports and vulture then begin engaging the enemy to keep them pinned down. 2nd turn has me drop most of the Scions onto the field and fire off their guns or sit on objectives while the Bullgryn charge in.

Some of the unit choices seem odd (like the Vendetta) but are there because that’s what I already have. Anyways I’d appreciate any opinions on whether or not you guys think it might be somewhat effective as an army.

Meltas are expensive and you can end up in a situation where you can't get any or all of them into range to shoot at anything but screens.

Voxes are largely unnecessary with large squads as long as you have 3 tempest with 3 command rod, you can order six squads of scions just be landing the tempstors in the right spots to do so.

convert all your meltas and remove those voxes, and you have 38 points left to play with

That's a free 5 man scion squad (throw in a grenade launcher) to use for objectives in the backfield or late game, or to harrass enemy screens. Its a cheap unit you can put in front of your planes on turn 0 in case the enemy's turn 1 attacks include lots of smiting -- and some armies do.

I know by now you won't lose the vulture gunship, but its also possible that the soon to be printed new codex for forgeworld will change the impact fo those two flyers entirely. Don't know how that is gonna go, but I suspect the vendetta will get some form of +1 to hit on hovermode. So its a keeper!

I can only hope, but I’m not going to hold my breath on anything FW related.

Just wanted to share something I just found out about, not sure if you knew it.

Orders are dependent on the Faction Keyword of the models, not the regular keyword.

So when you make a Scion unit a Kappic's Eagle unit etc, they get an added keyword, but their Faction Keyword does not change.

This means a Kappic Eagle Tempestor Prime can order an Iotan Dragons Scion unit.

.Only a fool believes there is such a thing as price gouging. Things have value determined by the creator or merchant. If you don't agree with that value, you are free not to purchase.

That’s good to know, but I’m pretty diehard about keeping my astra militarum armies mono-regiment. No particular reason for it but it’s something I like sticking to.

It means you don't HAVE to make all your troops a drop detachment if you want some of them to be stormtroopers -- and all can still be kappic eagles painted and kappic eagles officers can still pass orders to them -- even the ones you don't start as drop detachment guys. This has the potential to be confusing, but if you are tight on cp, its theoretically useful?

I have a feeling the new rules are going to mess with my 3 detachment list. I spend a lot of CP's pre game.

1 for Progeny of Conflict
1 for Field Commander
1 for Tempestus Drop Force
and 2-4 on Advanced Counter Measures.

I could spend more, but I don't see the point of additional relics.

Maybe they will keep it "fair" and give gaurd a couple extra to offset the extremely inefficient use we get out of each cp.

Ugh...so a 2000 point game starts you with 12 CP.

But they are upping points costs of units, because smaller games go faster.

They know that an event that says 1500 points won't have the draw of a 2000 point tournament/event. So a stealth points increase to make everyone play at a lower points level.

I have a few pad units....crusaders and I can drop a command squad or a valk. But ugh.

Well, with all the new rule reveals, it’s safe to say I can run more Valkyries than I though I would be able to, and the vendetta is actually somewhat useful with the heavy weapons change

Wait, what flyer related HW changes affect valks and vends?

And Vultures hit on 3+ now too, assuming they don’t remove Roving Gunship from it

While we will all have to see, this makes my little army very happy, and I may have to drag out my own vendetta to make it happen. I wonder...
hmmm.
