Hey Guys, I just dug my Ravenwing out of storage, and am looking to put together something semi-competitive. I have 3 or 4 full squads, bikes, assault bikes, speeders, Sammael on bike and in the speeder, a chappy on bike, and a few misc other bikes. I don't have the dark shroud, or knights, or fliers. What would be the best start for these models? Any opinions on squad sizes? I am definately picking up the darkshroud kit, or 2, as my first upgrade, along with a proper command squad. The codex is on the way.. Thank you in advance for the advice.

You would need the codex.

9th editio is just around the corner so even good advice will get nullefied, but codexes remains legal.

Welcome aboard! Its a great time to rejoin the hobby, but you might want to wait a couple of weeks to see what 9th Edition really means for the Ravenwing.

Having said that, a Dark Shroud is a great inclusion to a Ravenwing army, or any Dark Angels army for that matter. I really enjoy Ravenwing Black Knights. I typically run Sqds of six. They are a big target, but they don't worry about morale and you can use a Strat to at least get a 4++ invulnerable save. Sammy in Sableclaw is great, and you probably want to add a Talonmaster. Its a fairly easy conversion from a normal Landspeeder, and is pretty much identical to Sableclaw. Sammy in Sableclaw and a Talonmaster are a good team. Make the Talonmaster the Warlord with Impeccable Mobility and then run the two of them together behind a screen of Bikers and maybe some foot-sloggers. Regarding normal bikes, I started with large squads but now I run minimum-sized ones. Attack Bikes on their own are also handy to keep a screen around your Character speeders.
