Hi all,

This is the closest category that sprang to mind for this, so apologies if it's in the wrong one!

I am a freelance illustrator and, while I have a few graphic styles, I wanted to reach out to others about the sort of illustrations we see coming out of GW in their codex artwork (e.g. such as the image you'd see on the front of a codex like Imperial Knights etc.). When I look at these illustrations I'm trying to get my head around what sort of brushes (as in, brushes in digital palettes on a tablet or computer) are used when producing these. If you look at armour, for example, it it quite textured and grainy in places, suggesting some sort of daub effect. No doubt there are different brushes and textures overlaid, but just wanted to see if anyone out there had any info or experience in this? I want to try my hand at something similar.

Thanks in advance!

They were hand drawn by John Blanche. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Blanche

Possibly Mark Gibbons too https://mgartworks.myportfolio.com/games-workshop

Not sure how they are done now though

Thanks for the links dude! I had a play around on my iPad this morning before work and am starting to develop a style that seems to work. There are some great brush sets for Affinity (probably the top contender to the Adobe suite) on sale at the mo!
