Subject: Question about invulnerable saves

So... if I where to take a unit like assault terminators or vanguard vets, and were to equip 2 (or any amount) of the models in the unit with storm shields, then how do the saves work?
What do you do when some of the models in a unit have a different save than others in the same unit?

The attack sequence and wound allocation and saves are written in the rules to be resolved one at a time, so you allocate a wound to a specific model and resolve that model's save before moving on to the next model.

But doesn’t that mean that I could just decide to put all the wounds into my models with the best invulnerable saves until they die and then give the expensive equipment into the other units. Use the storm shield units as, well, shields for the other models with harder hitting weapons

Yes. Fairly common thing to do.

That's exactly what it means. I think its supposed to represent if a model with a good piece of kit - storm shield, plasma gun, missile launcher etc gets killed then the regular trooper next to him would pick up the better weapon/shield etc. Its also used to preserve sergeants/squad leaders for their improved wargear/abilites/leadership etc.
It's a deliberate part of the game and system for resolving wound allocation.

Remember if you allocate the wound to the storm shield guy, he is the one going to die when the save fails. You allocate wounds one at a time and roll saves one at a time. So you can indeed, for example, try and tank a whole bunch of Plasmagun wounds on the Storm Shield Guy (until he dies).
