then you have only 7 points remaining, enough for 3 heavy stubbers sprinkled on your 3 trojan support vehicles (a lower priority target, I think, that will be in a position to use them).

If your 3 missle launcher group of heavy weap squads were gone...
If you got griffins, 3 of them would work really nicely, think of it as a really, really heavy weapons squad of mortars!
If not, 2 basilisks in a squad + an extra command slot officer, maybe would get you to 4k.

That may be true, but they do have the "hidden" free pen of ignoring cover. In some instances that's better than ap-2 because for example a sisters army would ignore -2 and still get down to 2+ with the cover bonus -- but against a griffin its ignroing ap-1 and no cover, saves on a 3+, which is basically the same effect as negating the superpower that the valer. sisters tribe has.

Against things like eliminators or scouts, they positively shine, and sure, they are firing uphill if its against enemy heavy armor, but used against intermediate assets, they have a clear range where s6 is good enough to effect on a 3+, where -1 ap and no cover gives you good odds of effecting a lot of the targets (or forcing them onto invuln) and where d3 damage is decent.

You could take 2 basilisk instead of 3 griffin, of course, but I think they actually have a sort of a nice role in that they are also a lot more resilient (33 wounds of t7) than 2 basilisk (22w of t6 armor).

So yeah, I agree, but they can be useful, even so.
