Subject: New 9th rules and a swing first question.

My first take on the new rulebook was that things with the Swing First (or equivalent ability) will be really good.
However...
I notice in the free 9th book, it says specifically
CHARGING UNITS FIGHT FIRST
Units that made a charge move this turn fight first in the Fight
phase. This means that units that did not make a charge move this
turn cannot be selected to fight until after all units that did make a
charge move have fought.
At first I saw this and thought, okay, swing first alternates and opponent goes first, its great!
But now I see it says CHARGERS over and over, and I realize the rule for say Slaanesh (quicksilver swiftness) does not say as if they charged, or count as chargers etc.
Quicj=ksilver Swiftness:
"This unit always fights first in the fight phase, even if it didn't charge. If the enemy has units that have charged, or that have a similar ability, then alternate choosing units to fight with, starting with the player whose turn it is."
Okay, see the confusion. We can say that the specific ability overrules the new 9th books rule that chargers always fight first. (remember, the ability does not say "as if they charged or anything, so the unit with this ability is in no way a charger).
However (number 2):
If the ability overrules the new 9th BRB, than the second half (alternate choosing, starting with the player whose turn it is) also overrules.
So either:
A: Quicksilver Swiftness now let's you swing after all chargers but before those without this or other abilities.
B: Quicksilver Swiftness overrides the 9th BRB (as specific rules aften do) and a fight involving units with this ability change from the player whose turn it is NOT choosing first, to the player whose turn it IS choosing first.
Where are we? Waiting for a FAQ already? Hoping the explanation for Quicksilver Swiftness and other abilities that do NOT say count as a charger is clarified already in the new 9th BRB? Or have I massively missed something? (Before you get your back up, my group has basically decided QS overrides the BRB and it's played exactly as in 8th, but using the ne 9th non-going player chooses first. In other words, as if models with QS count as chargers)

Nothing has changed regarding chargers and first strikers, only what happens after those units have fought. Barring other special snowflake rules such as the Custodes stratagem or Vexator mask, the sequence is: 10 Active Player chooses a Charging Unit/Strikes First unit. 20 Inactive player choose a Strikes First Unit. 30 If there are Chargers or Strike First still left to fight, goto 10 40 Inactive player gets to choose a unit. 50 Active player gets to choose a unit 60 Goto 40 until all units have fought. I might be wrong, see below.

Okay BCB. That seems clear. I may have missed that the "reversal" of 8th rules allowing the non-going player to choose first only applies to non-chargers. Thank you.

It's only the case because the Quicksilver Rule (and others) say the active player gets to pick first, which overrides the core rule saying the non-active player picks first. This might change with the Day 1 errata, we'll need to wait and see.

Well, that was part of my confusion. If one part of the rule overrides, the rest does. Are you now saying your little "program" explanation is out? What is your current order of "operations" for a CC combat involving say: Player A (whose turn it is) has unit 1 which charged, and Unit 2 (did not charge). Player B (whose turn it is NOT) Has Slaanesh Daemonette's who were charged by unit 1, and Are in CC with Unit 2, as well as a Herald of Slaanesh in CC with unit 2.

The problem is your trying to put a square peg in a round hole.
Its not really a surprise that a rule written for 8th editions rules that got changed has trouble interacting with the new rules.
There will be dozens, if not hundreds of such rules that don't quite fit anymore. That is what a faq that will come out day 1 or a few weeks after will address.

You are probably right Ordana. As usual, and like most people, trying too hard to plan ahead...
