What does everyone feel the best approach with a combined Scion and Guard list is in 9th? The dual battalion initially seems CP cost prohibitive, but do you think you lose too much by taking Scions in a guard detachment? Especially after all the good stuff that came for Scions in PA.
Maybe I have to just swallow the 3CP cost for two battalions, i guess with grand strategist you're hopefully getting 2CP back per turn so could end up having 19CP to use by the end of the game?

I've always found that pure guard lists weren't particularly CP hungry.

Same. In 8th, I could easily start a game with 18+ CPs. However, I frequently ended games having barely spent any of them.

Maybe 9th will be different but I don't think starting with fewer CPs would be a huge hit for guard.

Yeah, when i read the small novel that is the Death Guard unit options and think about resolving the attacks from a melee-oriented min size death guard squad, the thing that springs to mind is "Accessible!"

You're not. If you're worried about your opponent using 'fake' rules, you're having fun the wrong way. This hobby isn't about rules. It's about buying Citadel miniatures.

Yeh thats fair. Although as you say 9th may well be different. There are some better strats since PA came out for both Scions and Guard, and an abundance of CP will allow a little more frivolous use of the new overwatch strats etc

I'd run dual guard battalions personally.

Anyone know if you do run Scions and *insert regiment of choice here* if you lose the regimental rules a-la space marine doctrines? I run Vostroyan Firstborn myself and love the way they play. Mixing in a Scion force would be potentially fun, but I wouldn't do it if I give up the few benefits that regimental rules provide.

Thanks in advance. Take it easy.

You don't know me son, so I'll explain this to you once: If I ever kill you, you'll be awake, you'll be facing me, and you'll be armed.

As far as I'm aware running two different regiments has no negative impact.
I suppose it's a mindset change for 9th where you are basically going to have 17CP available to you and whether you think paying 3CP for two battalions is worth the benefits it provides, just like extra WTs, relics or auxilary detachments...

If they are in different detachments, they both get their doctrines, if they are in the same detachment only the Vostroyan get theirs, the Scions do not.

With the new rules you might be able to swap that Battalion for a Patrol det and lose fewer CPs, depends how many units you are using I guess. Personally my Scions were only ever a min, battalion, so that easily fits into a Patrol.

I don't often play Guard anymore - ever since the Scions got their PA regiments... everything they needed is pretty much covered. If I need CC, I'll just take a couple of Assassins.

Alpha Strike regiment: Kappic Eagles

Deep Strike regiments: Iotan Gorgonnes, Iotan Dragons

Basic regiment: Lambdan Lions, Thetoid Eagles

Alternative Play regiment: Psian Jackals

Alpha Strike with a couple of Valkyries and Meltaguns/Plasmaguns... yeah...
I mean literally, having some Iotan Dragons in DS with an order filled TP, means they can DS on T2 and unload 36 shots of AP-2 goodness per squad right into something important.
Lambdan Lions can be surprisingly effective screening forces, and the Thetoid Eagles can do pretty well with their Taurox Primes.
Psian Jackals can be a good way to force an opponent to throw away CP... Losing 4 soldiers counts as 8, for morale? Take a Taurox Prime and fire a pair of Frag missiles into a couple of enemy Troops and watch the hilarity!

I will not rest until the Tabletop Imperial Guard has been reduced to complete mediocrity. This is completely reflected in the lore.
