Having won the quarter finals, the Samurai army advances to the semi finals. The team has packed up for a road show to Terrain de Football De L'île de La Commune, along the picturesque River Seine, facing the Burgundian Ordnance.

Enjoy.

A question about this rules set. In some previous reports, you mention Player One placed a hill to cover their right flank, but Player Two diced it off and moved so it had no effect on the battle. So how does the terrain system work? Could a player with a small elite army bring impassable terrain hoping that the terrain will stay on their flanks, but then suffer when instead of defending the pass at Thermopylae are now fighting in a broad flat prairie?

The terrain rules are a bit complicated and a "battle" unto it self. Each side dices off for "initiative" There are modifiers for generals and scouts.
The high roll selects who is attacking and who is defending.
He also picks a terrain type based on the defenders home environment. So the Greeks have Mountains and Plains available.
Each terrain type has number of pieces that can be selected. The plains have fields, gentle hill, gully, coastal edge. Mountains have steep hills, forest and coastal edge.
The exact position of each piece is diced for. Then at the final step, both sides can make minor adjustments from zero to 240 mm.
So in your Thermopylae example. The Spartans win the initiative, and elect to defend in the mountains. Select a couple of steep hills and a coastal region. Creating the stuff of legends and a few bad movies.

Thanks. It seems interesting of itself.
